Are we allowed to talk about this here? I just watched the director's cut and this is some of the best shit I've ever seen. I loved it as a kid but I never would have dreamed it held up this well, which makes it all the more painful that this show was left to rot and die on Spike of all fucking networks.
Let's get a muthafuckin Afro Samurai thread going man
the game sucked besides its ost and 2 was meh compared to the first one Wish jinno was the protag in 2 killing his way to get all of the headbands, instead of Afro doing a no more heroes I love the cyberpunk set in old ass Japan aesthetic its got going on too, wish more shows in general did that sort of thing
Ryan Phillips
Ya resurrection was a lot of wasted potential
I don't think cyberpunk describes the setting properly, it has so much mixed into it. That said it's fucking slick as hell and I'm glad it's appreciated
I don't see why not, the nime is literally made in America and I'm pretty sure Zig Forums would throw a bitch fit about this
Adam Bailey
How can one describe the setting of afro samurai? It seems to be like a... technologically advanced medieval setting.
Lincoln Parker
Wasn't it animated by hondo? A Japanese studio?
Hunter Ward
It's feudal cyberpunk. Quasi-futuristic tech combined with villages and swords.
Parker Smith
I fucking wish they would've shown Kuma earning all the other headbands they need to do a sequel series about that
Nolan Foster
I wish they'd continue it in any capacity, but Resurrection was ten years ago. I have a feeling Afro Samurai is done for. Maybe they couldn't get Sam Jackson back.
Him liking anime (and hentai) doesn't mean he's still interested in the property. Also, it's almost certainly owned by another company; Sam Jackson can express interest, but if they don't want to greenlight a sequel, it'll never manifest.
Ian Myers
Yeah, I didn't care for the sequel in general, but I thought what they did with Jinno was especially lame. The first one ended on the cool final shot of him getting to be this sort of tragic eternal rival. Like a warped reminder of Afro's past mistakes that would never go away. But just making him into a silent thug that helped recycle the plot of the first movie for the sake of his previously unseen sister to get revenge felt like a pretty lazy way to go about it.
Evan White
Is it schmaltzy that I thought that at the end of Resurrection that Afro was going to give the kid that he orphaned the Number 1 headband while he would continue to carry the burden of the Number 2 as penitence for all the blatantly terrible things he did?
I don't know. The pointless cycle of vengeance is the obvious theme of the movie, but I couldn't help but be disappointed that anything that Afro might have learned from it all was ignored for him just to do exactly what Justice did to him as a kid so he could go sit alone on top of a mountain in the end.
IT'S A FUCKING ANIME YOU IDIOT Japanese creator Japanese animation studio Japanese writers and directors
Bentley Carter
You should read the manga, it ends with that kid as a young man challenging Afro again who is now a near catatonic old man living for nothing and wishing for death, the kid attacks him but Afros self defense reflexes kick and he kills him with one strike
Landon Harris
That doesn't sound very catatonic
Luis Miller
>Director cut What's the difference between it and the tv cut?
Grayson James
reading off the box: unedited dialogue and picture 15 minutes of extended footage extended ending and original art from Takashi Okazaki
Samuel Ross
Nah, I've seen threads for this show on Zig Forums many times and it went fine, albeit with not much posts since it's a pretty old show at this point.
Nolan Flores
>train for years to avenge your father >can't even defeat the murderer when he's a suicidal old man on his death bed Bummer.
Angel Allen
I heard about that, kinda defeats the purpose.
Nathan Stewart
Yeah, it's less of a tragic cycle of violence at that point and more of a slow-ass murder spree.
William Williams
Afro Samurai is in that weird area where Zig Forums and Zig Forums could claim equal ownership, like Big O or Robotech. It's ultimately up to the mods if they'd allow it or be petty.
The ending where Kuma comes back to the Mountain with all the other headbands wrapped around his body is hype as fuck. Either the guy who rebuilt him or Jino himself made sure that no one can ever challenge Afro again, except Kuma.
