Are comic book stores toxic environment?

That shirt is garbage
maybe if its one of those comic book stores that just sells comics. But if its a comic book/game store like my old LGS, then they seem a lot more inviting
Yup, even if youre a white dude, comic shop owenrs in my experience are all awkward weirdos who are hard to interact with
The sweaty giant who would follow customers to make sure they weren't stealing at my local one sure made it feel unwelcoming.
Aawww, did the big mean till bitch not give you a courtesy suck for entering his shop?
Yes, if you are an old person (getting a gift), a woman or a literally child the fat turbo autist owners don't exactly invite you in and help you that well. Either they say nothing to you, are condescending or are so talkative it actually turns you off.
Generally the best comic book stores also have pokemon, yugioh, magic, warhammer, boardgames, action figures etc tournaments and events.
The worst comic book stores only sell comics and superhero stuff.
Somewhat.
My lcs owner was catious about me because in his words I 'dress like a football hooligan'. But after a few times of me coming in and picking up some trades and stuff he started to have conversations with me instead of the 'hey, that's 'x' pounds please, thanks.'.
Lol no and only people who wanted to push digital and trade sales ever said this.
I don’t care. Comics are for faggots.
>be female
>go to lcs
>owner asks if he can help
Fucking sick of guys thinking because I'm a girl I need help finding comics.
Gatekeeping is good for the community, bless the holier than thou autistic spergs on the frontlines.
LCS owners don't gatekeep autists like I do.
>Gatekeeping is good for the community, bless the holier than thou autistic spergs on the frontlines.
Can someone explain this to me?
says teh guy on a board about comics and cartoons.
You must be here for the cartoons that promote homosexuality and inter racial partner ships.
And you think comics are for faggots.
>t. TCG fags who think everyone should sell magik shit
Are you aware that not saying something is evil is not in fact promote it?
Hobbys get ripped apart and sold for cheap meat once they become mainstream.
Look at what happened to video games to comics right now, look at whats happening to board and PnP games.
they're not wrong though
Don't samefag and yes they are because they're casting aspersions upon them for no other reason than being pissy.
I don't go to target and complain I can't find a mattress.
I've had a couple over the years and they're all toxic in their own ways.
>the desperate hole in the walls who order things you didn't ask for but try to guilt trip you into buying it anyway
>the sanitized franchiser with clerks who follow you around and ask incessantly if you need anything
>the lonesome hobbyist who came into money and thought all his customers were his friends
>the specialist who focuses on one particular franchise and doesn't lift a finger to help with anything unrelated
>the pop wallers
Frankly, those fat old die-hards who sit behind the counter talking your ear off about comic news and trivia are the romantic side of the business.
Who knows, I work on a small LCS and we somehow got the fame of been the ones patent want to go buy shit for their kids because we take time explaining what the product is. It helps both of us working there used to be teachers. And also we have a "no hang out" policy: you can stay if you buy stuff or are a regular client, but poor teens who are just looking for a place to hang out are out of luck, we found them a problem specially when they do stuff like trying to talk to a costumer buying something with comments like "don't buy that it's terrible" or "everything is bad now".
tl;dr: people who go to the shop not to buy or participate on a set event are the real issue.
Sounds like you don't shop much in small businesses in general if you think any of this is notable.
Comic stores are usually run by assholes who just want to make money. I've had them increase the price of something in store simply because I showed interest in it
Not really, there’s genuine nice guys who wanna talk about comics out there I bet. But my “comic” shop is filled with sketchy people who work there, its one of those shops where the cashier isn’t even at the counter half the time and the shop shares a symbiotic relationship with funko pops, yugi oh and magic also shitty used games, skylanders and dvds.
>why do people who work at selling stuff try to sell stuff to me?
Comic stores are usually run by assholes who just want to make money. I've had them increase the price of something in store simply because I showed interest in it
Yes, It's very annoying.
Maybe you shouldn't go to the designated place to buy stuff if you don't want people trying to sell? If you want advice you have a million online resources, and if you are desperate for human interaction, well that's your problem.
Most are either run by hipsters who look at you side=eyed if you don't buy the most woke thing on the racks or old school assholes and live off of a trust fund.
Only if you're a fake fan who doesn't actually care about nerd shit and just wants a community to latch onto and use as a substitute for an identity or a personality. Or if you're an attention whore seeking beta orbiters. If you disagree with what I just said you're either naïve, a simp/whiteknight, part of the problem or all of the above. I know that's a neckbeard thing to say but it's true. Gatekeeping is a necessary evil.
Oh, I stopped going to comic shops over a decade ago. Been using these guys for years.
Trannies aren’t women
>"NO COMICS CAN'T BE MAINSTREAM REEEEE"
>Comics have been mainstream in Japan for decades at this point and is still going strong
Suuuure, it's those dirty normies rather than DC and Marvel's absolutely retarded business decisions.
When the bubble burst in the 90's they should have used it to branch out and keep distribution to larger stores.
Instead, they let Diamond gatekeep the whole industry for 20 years.
When I was in middle school I was just starting to get into comics and I started going into my LCS. I'd bought a few TPBs from them and stuff. One day I went in and was reading this one X-Men floppy that I was going to buy and for some reason the owner of the store suddenly got super anal with me and said that I was going to damage it and that I needed to put it back.
I never went back. People can't treat good customers like shit and then wonder why their business is dying.
What? I don't get what makes this guy toxic. Do you just not go in places with Mexicans running them?
Unless you aren't a regular that buys in large quantities then yeah they are assholes
Why would anyone interact with mexicans if they can avoid it?
>Comics have been mainstream in Japan for decades
No they aren't. You're a sad manchild in the west and you'd be a sad manchild in the east. What matters is whether or not you're genuinely passionate about it and not a social parasite.
Gatekeeping still exists, user. It's just you're the one being left outside the gate. No proprietor wants a sweaty, mush-mouthed, seething school-shooter-looking motherfucker who doesn't buy physical comics scaring away the freshman girls who came in to buy Funko Pops. Because maybe, just maybe, he can get the Funko-normies to buy Hilda or Maus or some shit. You are a lost cause. A dry well. A member of a worthless, dying, entitled demographic who demands absolute exclusive access to a hobby that desperately needs fresh ideas. If that makes you angry, then I'm truly sorry, but you should not have invested all your personhood in something other people do for fun.
I just Googled comic book stores and then use the first picture I found which had an actual person in it.

I may be biased since I know the guy who runs my local comic store but I never had a bad experience. It's car dealerships that come off as shit to me.
>tfw a made somebody seethe
Yay!
/tg/ here. If shitting on your old guard was profitable as you said it was, magic wouldn't be in a shit situation and D&D wouldn't be such a laughing stock.
Gamesworkshop have learned you can embrace both new ideas AND your old guard.
