Did it deserve to be such a box office flop back in 2009 ? How would you fix it or improve it ?

Coordinated marketing to raise interest and awareness of Astro Boy before making the movie
I dunno, I still haven't seen it. My only exposure to Astro Boy is the episodes that ran on Adult Swim about 15 years ago
>Opens up at 6th place
Audiences just weren't interested in seeing this. It was flop since day 1
Music composer talked once about the film's performance
Cora was a cute tomboy
It's kind of a miracle that this movie made it to theaters at all, since it had a very troubled development history. It was announced in 2001 and went through many directors, rewrites and distributors. To make matters worse, production took place during the recession, thus causing a lot of budget issues. They even halted production for a month as a result.

the trailer gave no indication of the actual movie being about a dead little boy
It was missing Uran.
Yes. Yes it did
>I have machine guns.... In mY ButT?1??!
Fucking western movie makers need to stay away from tezukas work
>Animator and storyboard artist from Fievel Goes West, Ferngully, Balto, Prince of Egypt, El Dorado, Chicken Run and Shark Tale.
>Director of Flushed Away.
Imagine thinking this isn't a Zig Forums film, cause it totally is. Gotta say it was an improvement over Flushed Away, which was little more than a bunch of slapstick jokes with barely any plot.
>Gotta say it was an improvement over Flushed Away
How is twisting tezukas work into some generic american kids movie an improvement?
That was an homage to the 80s show
I know that (I watched it all the time), but he didn't react like some braindead american teenager about it like in the movie
>Layout artist from Lion King and Hunchback
>Art director of El Dorado and Shark Tale
They got a good production designer for this. I really liked the overall aesthetic and setting he came up with.
It's been years since I last saw it, and honestly I don't really remember much about it. I was really looking forward to it back when it was first announced because I love Astro Boy, the 2003 series in particular, but it just didn't leave much of an impression.
Drop the "cool girl" love interest, and don't redeem the abusive dad who wanted to fucking EUTHANIZE him.
You gotta admit, having machine guns in your butt is pretty weird. You can't just include that and not make a joke about it.
>Elizabeth Ito
Adventure Time staff worked on this. Neat
>Nicholas Cage as Doctor Tenma who remains an evil asshole
It would have been amazi- oh wait, no. It's a celebrity actor doing voice work in a cartoon. He wouldn't give a shit like they all don't.
Same. I saw it in the theater and don't remember anything about it. I think Jon Lovitz had a part?
Glute guns are serious business.
I remember nothing from this movie.
The first time I've seen anyone bring this movie up since it released. I wanted to see but now I'm glad I didn't.
Who the fuck watched Saw 6?
Cage put the work in as Tenma. But yeah, the movie would've been better if he was completely irredeemible.
Nicholas Cage is a fuckin' nerd and gives his all in everything even if he should by no means care. I wholeheartedly think he wanted to be in the movie because he loves genre stuff like it.
In October people treat horror movies like rollercoasters.
It does have some memorable presentation ( everything regarding the character designs, sets and aesthetics )
It sucked, but was 2003 series good tho?
My guess as to why this was a flop is because Dragonball Evolution was still fresh on people's minds at the time, and also because Summit wasn't used to distribute animation products. There was barely any publicity
