I never understood this mentality, and it's only this board that has retards like you. Dude wants recs from people here, who quite often have a bit more taste than WatchMojo's top 10 Comics Based on Popular Movies. Why not offer your insight on what's worth reading? Does it really hurt that much?

Start from the beginning and go with original publication order. The first ~40 issues and associated specials are underrated among the comic fandom, and slogging through the next ~120 issues after that will make you understand why comic fans latched on to Flynn so hard and why they were so unwilling to acknowledge his flaws until the IDW comic made them irrefutable since he finally ran out of excuses.

A whole lotta twitter drama. There's a video by a youtuber called Lance Jerkov explaining the whole thing, though it's really hard to watch because he's very one sided and strokes Penders' dick a lot. To sum it up the best I can, there's rumors circulating that all the mandates for the comics were actually made by Flynn because he only wants to keep the comics as close to the games as possible. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but he blamed the mandates on Sega and often breaks them himself often. There's also the fact that at the beginning of his run for Archie, he spent the first several dozen issues killing off character unique to the comics which just pisses a lot of people off. To sum up the rest

>Many think he made Shadow a joke in the IDW comics

Maybe lolcow wasn't the right word, but many think he's an asshole and a purposely bad writer. I think there was also some twitter drama he had with fans but I don't remember. This whole thing is just one big mess.

At this point, I'm only here to watch the fandom kill itself. It's an absolute shitshow and I love it.

The truth when it comes to these "mandates" is that Flynn is like three or four steps removed at least from anyone at Sega who would give a shit about Sonic. He's an independent freelance writer who's contracted by a comic company to do licensed comics about a third-party IP. What Sega wants to do with that IP changes all the time, the people working for Sega who are Archie or IDW's contacts change all the time, and even those people are an ocean and language separate from the actual Sonic developers, as well as Sega's own marketing execs who have a vested interest in how Sonic is perceived since he's their mascot character.

Flynn's tenure with Archie started in late 2005 (to meet a release date of March 2006 for issue 160). Think of how much the Sonic franchise has changed since then, how many directions they've tried to go with it, how much or little Sega has bothered to oversee it, and all the staff and management shuffles. Just Iizuka himself went from finishing Shadow and working on Rivals in the US, to moving back to Japan and heading Sonic Team, to moving back to the US after Boom flopped. To say nothing of anything else. So when Flynn talks about "mandates," he's talking about what Sega feels like telling them to do at any given point in time, and now retards take them as hard gospel truths that are unchangeable when that's never been the case.

Flynn's biggest problem is that he got the job not by merit but by being the right guy in the right place at the right time, and he's had a steady job for almost 15 years ever since then, which means no need for him to actually improve his writing.
