Is the new ducktales actually any good?

It tends to be very ambitious. The peaks are high and the lows are tolerable. The main cast is incredibly well-defined and is allowed to develop over time. Animation in S1 is nothing to write home about, but S2 and S3 are very expressive. Also it's funny.

Pros
>Pretty consistently great comedy/gags
>A few characters are fucking awesome and imo, among their best incarnations in any Disney media
>The dramatic writing is solid, especially in season 1
>A lot of characters have not only fantastic voice acting in terms of performance, but are very well-cast too. Scrooge, Beakley, and Goldie all come to mind
>The animation is usually pretty good and the more recent episodes have vastly upped the quality of facial expressions
>Great worldbuilding
>Occasionally comes out with a truly emotional moment done very well, and in those moments it's like "damn, this is a great show"

Cons
>This show is the definition of missed/wasted opportunities, so if that bothers you, I would recommend not even bothering
>Most of the female characters are variations on the same basic action girl template.
>Pretty severe cast bloat starting probably halfway into season 2
>Can't tell whether it wants to be a more serious, Duck Gravity Falls affair or something more fun and light, isn't great at either
>The writing can be good, but it's often inconsistent and some characterizations vary pretty hard from time to time
>Personally I don't like the art style much so this is a con for me but seems to be a pro for you so more power to you

I could get way more granular but I would say this is a pretty good summary. Ducktales 2017 has a fair amount of great moments and great ideas but also suffers from a LOT of missed opportunity.

Depends what show you're looking for
>Looking for a more modern Gravity Falls-like show that's very ambitious and can pull off dark moments? Ducktales 2017
>Looking for a more traditional show that feels like a heavily serialized and superior Disney Afternoon program? Legend of the Three Caballeros

Fuck in my post I forgot to mention Cabs

Yeah something that eventually wore me down with Ducktales 2017 is how eye-roll-y ironic it can get, at times it gets to be too much and over time it was too much for me. It is one of those shows with a tendency to undercut genuine emotion with snark/one-liners, that's just its sense of humor. If you don't like that, that's something to consider.

I did like Legend of the Three Caballeros, but it's simply something I don't really think about much. It was good for what it was, a quick and fun adventure series. Straightforward, it did its job and was done. Did it pretty well I might add, but I don't feel compelled to remember anything from it.

For reasons I can't really be more specific about without spoiling anything, Ducktales 2017's missed opportunity problem can be boiled down to just me wishing things went differently, however, I have found that to be a common sentiment among many other viewers with varying tastes for characters, episodes, etc. So take it with a grain of salt, user. I don't think you'd go wrong in watching it. Hell, you may really enjoy it.

No. Watch Legend of the 3 Caballeros

>Most of the female characters are variations on the same basic action girl template.

As much as I love the show, I have been noticing this myself.

Traditional femininity is a big no-no among leftist writers. Even Daisy has shades of action girl now, and I guarantee Matilda will, too. I mean, don't get me wrong -- I like me some tough women, but some variation would be nice.

Well, most of the detractors tend to be nostalgia fags, comic fags, and people that hate the artstyle, so you're pretty much in the clear.

it's good. just watch the pilot & see for yourself

>Most of the female characters are variations on the same basic action girl template.
How brainwashed by anime waifu archetypes do you have to be to think that all the females in this show are the same
sorry that you don't get your obligatory redhead tsundere obsessed with fucking the main character and hyper-ass coomfuel mom

Eh, all females in this show being strong or otherwise competent adventurous females is true, though. And if they do have a character fault, then their basic athletic skills more than make up any of it.
Except Ammunet, leader of the mummy people. She was the only doofus one for following a scam that has been going on for a few centuries.

Not that it really matters, though, since the females are all minor characters, anyway.

Webby's definitely a major character though

Now that we are well into S3, they have introduced way too many recurring characters and a handful of them are presented as always being right, or at least being in the right when they shouldn't be.
Most of the episodes revolving around the core cast are still pretty good though, and even the worst episodes aren't really that bad.

>Nephews and Webby front and center.
>Scrooge further off in the background.
I was not expecting a promotional poster to be this honest.

The original is better. Pic related. Better animation and not square heads

Nobody cares about this one season failure. Fuckin shills

Good point. I'm not gonna toss the term "mary sue" around at them but they do edge a little too much in that direction for my liking

I’m actually cool with them actually promoting the show how it’s like
Bit of a waste but certainly giving the story

Imo the only female characters that aren't like this are Goldie, Beakley, Daisy, and Black Heron. Being adventurous is fine, life or death adventure in the DT17 universe appears to be a daily occurrence for everyone. But it's the overcompetency and the personality of the "action girl" itself that bugs me, not so much the actual action.

>No Russi Taylor as the ducks
>Now she's gone for good
It's shit.

>is the new ducktales actually any good?
Not really, its...
>but i really like the art style and the girls look really hot
Never mind then, this show was made just for people like you.

>Nu-Ducktales
No!

The Legend of the Three Caballeros is ten times better than Nu-Ducktales.

The original Ducktales are better than the reboot. The DT17 is getting too boring.
Based.

This show really fucking loves having the end of an adventure as the opening. Holy fuck it feels like Teen Titans Go sometimes with its "the team during their off time" tagline. All the while they keep saying "we're adventurers" to remind watchers they go outside of Duckburg OFF SCREEN. Worst thing is that the episodes featuring actual adventures tend to be good. I say this loving this show, mind you

The next episode seems to be focused around an actual adventure for once.

You sound like battered housewives. Please raise your standards.

As a big Duck fan, I must admit some episodes were really great, but bloated cast and no progression kills it.

With Kid versions of Don and Della, right? Seems fun, the last 4 or so eps were a good return to form imo. But it starts to feel like excecs force kids in the episodes since their hasnt been an episode solely focused on adults aside from Della's solo ep.

>cartoon standards
>in 2020
I cant rewatch the DCAU for the 4th time mate.
>Battered housewives
Perfect metaphor for fans of original series that watch adaptions

And not only that, but HDL really sounded like boys and acted like boys their age and have cute tails.
