He could serve an important role as an awkward loser thrust into prominence because of the twin circumstances of getting Nova powers and having the right friends.

Miles is the one who has had immense success riding the Spider-Man brand. Outside of her first run Kamala has trouble holding a comic and even the game where she was shilled to infinity isn't doing so well. Mostly because the game itself is shit but the way she's written there didn't do her any favors.

Sadly most of Marvel is probably just keeping him there for the diversity points and not so much because they care about him as a character even though Sam is the better character when compared to most of the other Champions.

What is there for him to do on a cosmic title? There's no way in hell he's getting a solo title ever again, and I doubt Marvel wants to risk GotG drastically losing readership with him there. Champions really is his best bet to stick around
