>Normies killed off 2D animation and rendered the second-to-last good Disney Princess movie to the backburner because they're racist as shit deep down
Man fuck this Hellworld. Imagine if PatF didn't sell like flamethrowers in the burn ward? Disney would probably put a couple ounces of effort in their movies.

To be fair it didn't help that PatF was a mediocre movie. It was enjoyable, but nothing super special and I think I remember them reusing animation cycles in one of the musical scenes? It felt very by committee rather than a break out story that they poured everything into.

Stop blaming normies for everything Disney deliberately killed it off

They've already built a narrative about how they weren't racist for not watching/hyping it, Disney were racist for turning her into a frog. They've also the thing that Lasseter pushed really really hard to get this made and they can't accept him doing anything good.

I think ultimately it suffered from a lack of fairy tale magic. There were no 'powerful' songs, she wasn't a princess (aside from the twist) and the story felt... weird (not bloated or complicated but felt like it had to keep being prodded along)

I was just barely not old enough to drive when it came out, so I had to either ask friends if they wanted to see the princess movie or ask on of my parents to drop me off at the princess movie. That was a kind of social suicide.
I regret not seeing it, turns out it’s my favorite 2D Disney film.

Didn’t another Pooh movie get made afterwards but it was set up against Harry Potter?

Should have came out around today instead of 2009 when nobody really cared about niggers..
or frogs for that matter

It's also a movie with bad music. Unlike the previous Disney. that said, Tangled and Frozen also have horrible soundtracks.

The songs have a weird level of mediocrity, where they're not bad but they just don't really stand out. Even friends on the Other Side is only memorable because of the visuals and performance,

I will give it credit for actually having a theme and personality to the music though. So many musicals are just pop music with each song being largely isolated, having no coherent style or influence

Based frognigger

It being only 60 minutes long didn't help either.

Joking aside,
It was a pretty mediocre and somewhat felt uninspired.
It's selling point was probably the diversity and not much thought went into it beyond that.
A lot of the aspects of the movie seems underdeveloped because of this from plot to design.
Aesthetically it was pretty bland. Most previous Disney movie had something unique to offer in its world design:
whether it was an ocean world, a safari world, Arabian Desert whatever.
The New Orleans swamp pales in comparison from the colorful and imaginative environments of other Disney animations.
I'm pretty tolerant to plot when it comes to Disney movies, but this was just meh overall.
Character motivations and arcs wasn't that closely knit to the plot, such as the girl who literally has nothing to do with all this.
Also pacing was pretty weird and artificial.
It's an okay movie though.

>It's because they're black, audiences are racist!
>No, it's because they're frogs, Disney is racist!
It's because Tiana is a fucking boring main character. How are you supposed to get into workgirl, who knows the value of honest work and learns that maybe she has time in her life to be dicked by a handsome prince? Switch her personality with that crazy bitch Lottie and then you'd have a movie.

but I like Tiana
Are you implying she was too much of a good girl for mediocre femoids to relate to her ?

>femoids
wut

she's nice,
but the writing on her part is probably the flimsiest part of the movie imo

Princess and the Frog probably does way better if it came out now.

Still wish they put this in kingdom hearts

This
They didn't want to be beholden to the Animators Union anymore

But it would of been 100% ditched to Snipple if they try to do that now.

Lets just hope that The Bob's Burgers Movie is a canon Disney movie that is 100% done in the States, because if The Bob's Burgers Movie is nothing but Yearim or some other Korean or Filipino sweet shop then we're never getting out industry back unless we fight for it.

>Filipino sweet shop
Sounds like a band

I'm mexican, fuck off loser. Princess and the frog is only good for the crocodile.

Thats what Snipple is.
When Maroru Hosoda uses them then we talk.

It's an okay movie, but feels a bit committee made. For all of Treasure Planet's flaws, you can tell it was a more personal project for Musker and Clements

Get woke, go broke. No one wants a black princess.

>film is a huge flop
>Disney parks are in deep shit at the moment, making huge money and most future projects have been put on hold
>announce you're retheming one of the most popular rides in the park to it
>it's going to cost $100m's, close the ride for a year and provide no real boost.

2D animation was already going away long before The Princess and the Frog. People seem to forget that Disney made -three- CG movies (Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons, and Bolt) before this. Four if you count Dinosaur which was even earlier. What killed 2D for Disney was Toy Story and Shrek being major successes, and Atlantis and Treasure Planet flopping.

This movie would have literally had to make a billion dollars in order to revive 2D. It was an impossible task. Just be glad it exists. It's not the peak of 2D Disney by any means but it's overall an acceptable swan song. Of course, Winnie the Pooh was the actual last theatrical Disney 2D movie.

Patf was okay-ish

>Tiana becomes a Fantasy obsessed woman child lusting after prince dick to make her life end with a fairytale happy ending
>Lottie is restrained and realistic and gently tries telling her underclass friend that happy endings come from hard work and aren't magically given
As fun as this would be the racism claims would have been six times worse. The black lead effectively is a airheaded gold digger and her white rich friend is the tempered responsible one? It'd never get past a pitch stage, forget even storyboarding.

Who cares, Tangled came a year later

Around this time, DW hit home run with Kung fu Panda. Pixar proceeds its stomp with Wall E, UP and Toy Story

Oh and also PatF didn't flop, it made $270 million on a $105 million budget. Obviously not the greatest box office ever but not a disaster, a modest success comparable to something like The Little Mermaid (which ushered in the "Disney renaissance"). If it had been released earlier no one would have blinked an eye, it's just an easy target for certain people.
There were much bigger 2D Disney flops in the past, and those didn't cause Disney to shutter their whole 2D vision. This was a long time coming.

The Bobs Burgers Movie will change that.

The movie was crap. The only cool thing was the villain, the rest is just weird shit that didn't even feel like a Disney movie.

Whenever you see a budget for a movie, it's a general rule of thumb to double it because of how much marketing is done. It made money, but it wasn't on the same level as the Disney renaissance films, so it was considered a failure.
