Isn't this exactly the way to get good? You study the works of good artists and learn how they make their underdrawings, what tools they use, where they look for inspiration, etc.
If you want to draw a certain way, you look for relevant artists and you copy their stuff until you get good and develop your own style.

Not really, imitating a drawing is very rarely going to help you with anything. You need to draw from life to understand shapes, and once you have a solid grasp on those (which takes years) draw from imagination which is where your own "style" ends up coming from. Drawing is about having an intimate relationship with geometry that allows you to visualize the configurations you need to represent. Imitating someone else's style is imitating symbols, not shapes.
