why does everyone keep saying this? I remember watching it and finding it funny more than anything else.
COURAGE THE COWARDLY DOG WAS SO HECKIN DARK AND SCARY

most episodes were horror-themed which is the most kino form of children's entertainment
i remember as a kid seeing the episode with the weird blue fetus thing saying you're not perfect and after that i was too scared to go back on cartoon network
Because it was faggot.
it was both. The grandpa getting killed every episode was really messed up imo.
Why was everyone scared of the blue fetus dude? I was never scared of him for some reason. The return the slab dude was absolutely terrifying though.
for me they both were unsettling for the same reason, uncanny use of cgi
>return the slab
>or suffer my curse
>First episode of courage didn't have the iconic Farmsted
So weird
I literally remember ZERO scary things from this show.
The only thing that stuck is the grampa wearing the funny mask and going OOOGA BOOGA BOOGA
Oh it's just the zoomies. For them it was baby's first creepy scary cartoon. I'll even admit there was a bunch of creepy and unsettling stuff. I remember that puppet episode felt like a less creepy page out of picrel.
>STUPID DOG, YOU'RE MAKING ME GAY
All nickelodeon and cartoon network are soi incarnate. Spongebob, Courage etc are all soiboy manchild garbage. Grow up and stop watching children's TV, or at the very least stop pretending children's TV was high brow art
Nemo, secret of nimh, water ship down, and russian jungle book scared the shit out of 5 year old me.
Yeah, Big Bad Wolf eating Grandmother and then Red Riding Hood and the Woodsman chopping his head off ang gutting him to extract Granny isn't dark.
That's fucking Bruno Bettelheim shit, Zig Forums.
Courage was dark and scary because that's what good children's stories are, not Le Perrault cucked tales.
>slab guy
>blue fetus
>white moon with intense human face
>episode when the windmill stops working and horsemen from hell come and attack
All these episode gave me legitimate nightmares as a kid. Other episodes were good but not as scary. Show was kino. I've grown up to see myself become Dr. Zalost
Same fags who think mainstream horror films are scary.

Me? Yea, I wasn't scared by the baby cartoon
Oh what's that? The scary baby cartoon? I wasn't scared
Hmmm... anyone else see this scary baby cartoon? I, personally, didn't think it was that scary.
I would never be scared by a cartoon, certainly not one meant for babies, that's for sure.
I don't get it, I don't get scared by baby cartoons, but you guys are all scared by it? I guess I'm just different.
You wanna watch something? No, let's not put on any scary baby cartoons, those don't scare me.
It was both. It was funny as hell, but it had a lot of stuff that was unsettling enough for children. Good sound design and use of large open backgrounds really sold a sense of isolation. Also I think it's unique in that it taps into a certain helpless feeling of being a kid, when you're afraid of things like monsters in the closet and believe your family is in danger, but your parents disregard it. I remember I would have nightmares about things like my parents refusing to take shelter during a tornado.
the creator is on facebook and always answers his reasonings for spookiness and how even the cn execs were like this is too intense! he was reached for a reboot of the series but had issues due to the "toning" down of the story telling and horror
cool my dreams are kinda like that too
>queen of the black puddle
>spider motel
>the treasure box with the demon arms
>the giant starfish that will destroy the farm if Muriel doesn't speak
These all really got me too. Especially the demon arms and black puddle because I felt like you couldn't escape them. Freaky Fred himself didn't scare me as much, but it introduced the concept to me of someone dangerous enough to have a phone number on his wrist to call for help, and that really freaked me out.
The only episode i found slighty scary was with the cat lady that wore that white mask. Something about the emotionless face of the mask made her really creepy. But nothing that i lost my sleep over
The only things that scared me were
>you're not perfect
>the conjoined twin woman
>the man who became so cynical he became an ulcer in his own stomach
>the talking tree
there are episodes that are literal allegories for child molestation and spouse beating
It was scary. But also had good humor mixed in.
There are two kinds of people in the world...
Blessed post
it had this thing
