It's observation more than anything. I've noticed that if Franklin and/or Little Bear were someone's favorite shows growing up, they seem to have a penchant for serious, grounded shows with a lot of dialogue and character interaction, with little tolerance for the more surreal, zany, in-your-face Tim and Eric type stuff.
