Explain to me how the Air Bender Genocide in Avatar the Last Airbender could have possibly happened
It legitimately makes no sense
Explain to me how the Air Bender Genocide in Avatar the Last Airbender could have possibly happened
All the firebenders on the planet got a super powerup because of the comet. Also the population of the Airbenders was significantly lower than the fire firebenders.
Comic goes into it a bit more. Most of the airbenders were in the various temples and they were all hit. The other airbenders that were all over the world were lured into elaborate traps and killed. Aang was lured into one but managed to escape.
The airbenders could literally just fly away on either their gliders which they're trained at a young age to use or on sky bison.
For a bunch of spiritualists who were about giving up worldly possessions they sure were obsessed with all dying together on the only land they colonized
Are they really nomads if they're all just corralled into 4 temples?
>wtf how in the fuck did an industrial revolution warmonger nation destroyed a bunch of pacifist monks without weapons living in the copper age???
>just fly away
Flying is super hard, the avatar control of each one of the elements by itself is far greater than of a regular human.
I don't know what to say user, that's what the show and comics offer as explanation.
Which is why it's bullshit. It's more believable to think that the Airbenders abandoned the continent and are off living on some lion turtle bullshit
I do believe they track down anyone who escaped and executed them. also if you're not extremely talented you're not going to be able to get very far with just abandon and most of the badasses probably decide to stay and die fighting. And does this seem like holocaust-denying practicing for anyone?
Literal children airbenders were shown using the gliders for extended periods of time. Even in TLoK regular airbenders are shown to adeptly use their gliders
>Pacifist
>Stay and die fighting
>Holocaust-denying practicing
You an airbender or something?
Even the Fire Nation admits to killing all the Airbenders. And aang Clearly states that the Nomads had no formalized military.
They would have a harder time controlling their flying with all the fire
Heat would make the air rise.
Yes they can control the element of air, but all the heat would fuck with what they were used to
I'd like to think at least a handful escaped and spread their airbender genes to the point that when Aang was active there'd be a good number of scattered airbenders in hiding. But Bryke wanted "The Last Airbender" to be literal.
Hundred years is a good amount of time to wipe out a very small population. When you are actually trying to wipe them out.
and OJ Simpsons was found not guilty of murdering his wife. No military or no formal military makes for even more reason for why they might've survived by running away
Reasonable. With the amount of focus on earthbenders hiding their powers in the original series you would hope that there were some surviving airbenders out there hiding
Maybe if they had them all chipped and were capable of tracking them down but these are highly mobile peoples nomadically traveling around the world. Dropping their numbers down to 90% of what they were pre genocide? Sure no problem but to say that the fire nation managed to exterminate all but one is some bullshit
While you can use that to justify how many people managed to become airbending in Legend of Korra. Is completely possible on number of integrated into non Airbender Society. And always was. Ty lee was a good percent Airbender. I feel like that can be used in the new live-action TV series. But that does not change the fact that the Fire Nation did genocide completely deliberately.
So they'd be push up more than they're used to in some isolated spots of the area they're fleeing. That shouldn't stop them from getting away from a military force limited only to the ground
Are you forgetting super-powered Firebender?
You do realize the Fire Nation basically surrounded entire temples anytime they had Supreme firebending and began attacking the entire world with a powerful navy and was planning this attack for years? Logistics are unreasonable by this show has never really been great with Logistics.
It's just attempted genocide then. I'm not trying to rehabilitate the fire nation i just don't see how they were able to carry out the genocide given their established lack of hot air balloons or anything other than ground forces
A super powered firebender just means that the average soldier is capable of throwing fire 5 or 10 feet farther than they would normally. A flying airbender would still be well out of range of that on the ground.
I could see it if the firebenders were using Sozen's Comet to fly with their bending as it has been seen in the show but i don't think that had been established at that point in history
feels like bait
>I do believe they track down anyone who escaped
That is implied by some of the TCG cards.
Those had both an actual survivor(Malu) and a traitor(Afiko) who helped the Fire Nation both to attack the temples and chase down anyone who got away.
Here's Malu.
Interesting. Wish it was cannon so the show had more depth
It legitimately doesn’t matter.
It's the centerpiece for some of the most major points of world building for the show. The Ember Island Players episode acknowledges inconsistencies and tropes within the show so how is it that the genocide of a seemingly nomadic and versatile culture can't be touched
