It commits the capital sin of being simultaneously too OP and boring as shit. The first few times she uses it are kinda cool, but then you realize it neuters all grim opposition if mastered and spammed, so she can never really make genuine use of it or incorporate it into her fighting style.
It has potential as a finisher, but they'd need to dive way deeper into its mechanics, pros and cons than they've done, while dialing it back some for the truly powerful grim(and they seem to be going this route).
Ultimately, it goes against the spirit of the show, which should be cool fights and choreography. Having a simple ability that ends fights without anything fun or cool happening on screen is dull.

Literally the appeal of RWBY was the fight scenes with the blaring music. Now that only goes to side characters.
There's no reason for Cinder to be jobbing to Penny of all people when we saw Penny struggling with the fucking jobops an episode prior. It's sad that she sucks this bad because this also brings down characters like Raven and Winter, since they obviously struggled with her during their fights.
