Lucy is great as a supporting character but every time she gets a big role the episode turns into a lucy commercial. She's easy toptier when the focus isn't on her but every ep she stars in just sucks. Shes like maddie from amphibia

the only episode where lucy dominates the episode is the scavenger hunt one, and i think her aggressiveness played off oscar's codependency well. but i see what you mean, the rest of the cast (besides susie) are pretty meek. it's a tough balance to strike.

i don't get the maddie comparison either, she only had one episode focused on her iirc

lucy isnt bad in the scavenger hunt, but oscar is awful is what i mean. Hes been seperated from hedgehog multiple times but this time for no reason he turns into a complete sponge just to prop her up. There's also the comb ep and to a lesser degree the unicorn competition where it just comes off as a showcase of shit lucy can do. Its the same thing with anne and sprig in maddie's ep where they fight monsters on a regular basis but someone with a curse shows up and they don't even do anything to help so she can take him down solo.

Kind of like the writers want her to be a major character but she hasnt had enough time to be developed so they try to rush her through and it just comes out poorly. Would be a lot better if she had more secondary appearances that don't focus as much trying to establish her character the way max has been used.

oscar becoming more independent is one of his major arcs - it's a slow burn but he's gotta start from the bottom before going up. i realize he was less like this in season 1, when i suspect the writers didn't know what to do with him so they wrote him more like a generic kid. unfortunately it makes it look like he's regressing though i don't think that was the writers' intent. i didn't mind the comb episode since they foreshadowed lucy's yeti knowledge in the library and i don't remember her at all in the unicorn episode.

from my perspective the combs/unicorn episodes are secondary appearances so i'm not as bothered by them.
