Why would you like TNG because of fucking Geordi of all people? Like I love the dude, but he's the most milk-toast backgroundish main character I can think of that show. I know they were pretty much doing the dense "black characters love black characters because they're black", but wouldn't Worf at least make more sense?

At least they know that DS9 is the best show.

It's probably more of an admiration of LeVar Burton than love for Geordi.

No one like NG because of Geordi the dudes best freind is an emotionless android and he simped over a holographic projection of someone that turned out to be nothing like them

Dude, Levar Burton hosted reading rainbow. Of course you would latch onto him.

Word is a Klingon so not the same think.i agree that Sisko is superior

DS9 is a good show, but it was the show's first step into muh gritty war and dark themes which now embodies STD and Picard now.

OP kind of has a point. If you're into nerdy Star Trek characters, people usually go for Data or Spock. Levar Burton is great though.

They said Geordi, not Levar. And Worf is Klingon but he's also clearly a black character, just as Superman is a white character despite being Kryptonian.

>milk-toast
milquetoast

ds9 is a subversion that works. std and picard are star trek in name only.

Data and Spock are who nerds want to be. Geordi and Scotty are who they actually are.

BECAUSE HE'S BLACK, user.

HE'S THE ONLY BLACK CHARACTER ON THE SHOW SAVE FOR THE RANDOM EXTRA AND THAT DUDE THE SPACEFACE KILLED FOR THE LULZ

THAT'S THE ONLY REASON.

>But Worf

Worf is a Klingon and thusly doesn't count because he's not human and therefore never faced the same struggles human blacks have.

It did it way better than those shows though.

>black person
>blushing
That doesn't happen unless you're exceptionally pale

White guy here, Geordi's probably my favorite TNG character other than Yar, but I also realize he needs someone to play off of. That episode where him and the romulan got stranded was kino.

>and therefore never faced the same struggles human blacks have.

Neither have Geordi or Sisko. They live in the Federation, human racism has been dead for hundreds of years by the time they were born.

Geordi deserves more respect.

I wish I were LeVar Burton....

Bitches dont appreciate Guinan

Last time I said I thought Guinan was cool I was on reddit and they called me racist for liking a magical wise black person trope and that is when I gave up caring about white people pretend to like black people because Guinan was fucking cool

Waiting for new episodes is lame.

Fuck you I love Geordi

I am a retard, wrong thread.

I'm black and pretty much this, it really is that simple when you're a kid.

>it was the show's first step into muh gritty war and dark themes
You're not wrong but that doesn't make it inherently bad for any reason. Same thing goes for RE4, it may have been the first step into more action and less horror that the RE series took but it doesn't make RE4 bad.

Wasn't DS9 also a big inspiration with Mass Effect which arguably does everything better? I mean in terms of world building and all that, not the overall story we got.

That's because DS9 understood that you didn't need to make the federation some Orwellian shithole in disguise to subvert the Star Trek formula. They just had characters confronting the consequences of adhering to those values when it means millions or billions in the long run will lose their rights or even their lives. The federation ideals were still something noble to be pursued but characters sometimes had to be the lesser of two evils just to make sure those ideals were still around tomorrow. STD and PIC are just "lol what if the federation were actually bad guyz and stuff blew up a lot!"

It is easier to relate to people you identify with, especially when you are young.

eric!

motherfucker!

>liking TNG only because of Geordi
>putting DS9 over TNG

Sisko did experience racism as Benny.

Jelicho is best character, prove me wrong

>Worf is a Klingon and thusly doesn't count because he's not human and therefore never faced the same struggles human blacks have.
He was treated like shit by other Klingons constantly because he was raised by humans. Sounds kind of analogous to racism to me.

I really fucking hate that they went that route with the modern Trek series. I certainly don't mind setting like that but it is stupid to force that stuff onto a setting that was not that way for the first several decades of it's life. I think DS9 did a good job showing that the Federation was imperfect, as anything made by humans will be, and that despite coming a long way there are still misguided people.

>other than Yar

He was pretty fuckin based and he was treated like fucking shit at the end of that episode. He successfully negotiates with the Cardassians and got Picard back and at the end Picard just tells him to fuck off and get off his ship.

>Prevents a war with zero casualties
>The enterprise crew still tests him like he was a huge failure

I will never not be mad

But he was mean to Riker and told Deanna to wear a uniform!

Sisko of a great character. Who says he's underrated

>He told Troi to wear a uniform ugh what a sexist asshole
I have actually heard people make that claim. I really wish he hadn't kowtowed to Riker like he did. He should have called him to the Ready Room and had the talk there.

I don't understand how people are okay with the direction Trek has been going in STD and Picard unless they're shills trying to do damage control.

I think a lot of them are people who were not fans of the older series.

So what are some black characters black people do like?

A lot of people didn't like DS9 initially because it wasn't traveling the space frontier like TOS and TNG so they skipped it.

On an unrelated note, Voyager had its problems but does anyone else actually think it would have been more interesting if like Riker was the Captain in that show? Like he finally gets his own ship and its tossed to the other side of the Galaxy and they have to figure out how to get back.

There is a whole group of people who only like a show because other people do not like it.
If I had to pick any group of people to pluck from existence it would be them.

I just don't like Voyager for it's plot and episodes
