It's because jpoop sounds and looks childish and is cringeworthy. Koreans imitate american sounds and aesthetics which make k-pop sound and feel more familiar for many. Also, it's a case of successful marketing that the guys at "cool japan" could only dream about.

Americans and Latin Americans in particular are hopelessly materialistic, and so they love bland shallow upbeat escapism. Being Korean adds to the allure because millions of simps see Korea as a rich utopian land full of beautiful people and superior media, at least in comparison to the West. It's a symptom of neoliberal idealism in its latest stage and a cope of epic proportions.

Contrary to what people on Zig Forums may tell you, many teenage roasties like twinky boys, hence the popularity of boy bands. Korean media corporations saw an opportunity to jew them into kpop with quirky marketing and hotter boys and it worked big time.

Girl bands aren't as popular because it's fucking embarrassing for a man to be a simp for an ultra-girly celebrity in the West.
