>here's your meal sir
>that'll be $20
>also, you are obliged to give me additional free money for remembering something and then bringing that thing back here
Here's your meal sir
I don't go to the same restaurant twice, so I never tip.
>Sorry sir, but I'm a veteran and we're quite poor. Maybe you could give me a tip instead?
I'm kinda economically dumb
Are restaurant meals technically cheaper in the US? So the low wages and tipping make up for it?
here's a tip: get a real job faggot ahhahahahahha
>leaves moonwalking
I haven't really traveled outside the country since I was a kid, so I don't have anything to compare it to.
Yes. The employers literally cuck their customers and make them directly pay their employees lmao
now this is a based post.
Did you mean 'turn 360 degrees and walk away'?
Ive only been to the states when I was a kid. But you can get some amazing deals there.
and to be honest, American restaurant staff are usually a lot kinder than New Zealand staff. Especially our bigger cities.
from what I've seen in terms of food for buck it's pretty good and staff are usually good, except at regular fast food chains.
But their employers don't pay them. They pay them the minimal amount and their base salary is directly payed for by the customer. It's insane.
Even funnier is that American's don't even realise the rest of the world is laughing at them lmao
>not being able to do the math and simply raise the price to 25 and get rid of the stupid tipping culture
>not having laws that say advertised price is a legal obligation and must include all kinds of tax or extra fee's
>even giving a hint that a tip is required is straigh out illegal
>mandatory tip? no way bro, that's retarded
If one place raise the price then people will go to the restraunt that didn't raise the price. Not defending the tipping culture but there will be some shitty ways to enforce tipping
do they really
American service sector pays slavery wages so they make the staff act like monkeys to garner tips.
Got lots of family over there and it used to be 15-20 years ago, not really anymore, not sure why exactly but food prices in the US have increased a fuckton, cheaper to eat out in the UK these days
Makes up for it if the food is cheap
Plus I'm sick if having to deal with grumpy/arrogant Auckland waiters
thats why you make it a law, everyone must raise the price if they dont the competing restaurants will rat them out pretty fast. it works here no reason why you cant do the same.
Can't speak for everyone in the country, but everyone I knew personally that waited tables enjoyed it as they made pretty good money at the time for their age and work experience level.
Then the restraunt lobbyist will throw a shitstorm. Nobody can fix this now
americans are a treasure
The worst part is it’s a percentage rather than a set amount. So if I want to eat somewhere nicer or get a nicer meal then I have to give you more money. Just for you to do the same thing if I bought a cheap meal
>his cunts labour union and political parties cant fight off a few angry restaurant owners
land of the free
What happens if you do? Do they put you on a blacklist and spit in your food if you come back?
I'm from Taiwan and have cousins in California
They told me that when you eat out, you essentially add ~30% to whatever price you see on the menu.
Example:
$10 meal
+10% tax = $11.00
+18% tip = $12.98
$10 -> $12.98 = ~30% extra
They also said it's pretty hard to find anything under $10/person pretax/pretip when you eat out so eating out is just expensive
>California
Of course it's gonna be expensive
What went wrong with americans?
Isn´t this like, illegal as fuck? As I have understood the US Bill of Rights is about THE most powerful document in the US.
i dont get how this is even legal
>open menu
>pizza is 10
>order pizza
>that would be 15 plus tip please
why doesnt someone challenge this in the court, its a pretty clear case advertised price is what you should expect to pay.
It is very foreign to me too because there isn't tipping or excluded tax in Taiwan
From what I understand, tipping isn't required it's just socially unacceptable to not tip.
I guess, the thing is that you are not legaly bound to pay the tip. The waiter is just gonna be butthurt. Therefore not false advertisement.
It IS messed up that restaurants are not bound by law to pay a living wage to waiters.
