Hippies from the USA and rest of the world used to go to Amsterdam a lot back in the 70s and maybe 80s when the city was far ahead in terms of gay acceptance, drugs being allowed, etc.
Nowadays that's very far from the truth and the city is mainly popular among super generic normies that go there because everyone else has been to Amsterdam as well. I stalk a lot of foreign instagram girls and each and everyone of them has been to Amsterdam.

The Greek government is planning on opening up the entire country for tourism again this summer and you will defend it after a 10 hour shift serving us cocktails

TBQH last winter I had a night-long layover in Amsterdam while traveling to Egypt and India. It was my first time in Europe since about 2015, as I've found myself more partial to other parts of the world.

Struck me as a fairly pleasant place. Wouldn't mind going back. Although parts of the city's historical center were over-touristed, even in the dead of winter.

Not so much as I just think it's weird how obsessed people from outside Europe are with going to Amsterdam as some sort of prestige thing. They don't really seem to care about the city at all but just want a bunch of pictures on their social media to show they've been there and done 'it'.
It is a fairly pleasant place. There's plenty wrong with the city but it's definitely very nice.

I can see from where you are coming, mainly because people do this here as well, for many years we've only been a tourist destination because we have prostiutues or nightclubs, not many people come to appreciate the historical sites and nature we have here

I have to admit that I was a little confused by how many Argentinian steakhouses there were in Amsterdam's historical center. I don't think I've ever seen so many in one place, even in Latin America.

Well that is one of the things that struck me as well, to be fair. We don't have nearly as many of them outside of Amsterdam. I suppose it's mainly because a steak house is very neutral and as such tourists from all over the world can enjoy them.

Yeah like I already said the Greek government has already whined to the EU that they should stop telling people to cancel their holiday plans because Greece is going to open their hotels, restaurants, clubs and airports this summer and the Greek posters will make a 180 and defend it.
