Korea's move to hangul has allowed it to adopt technology at a much faster rate than Japan. Alphabets are easier to memorize and implement than logographies. The fact that so much time is dedicated to learning characters when there are *two* syllabaries in Japan is mind-boggling. There's three ways to write something in Japan with the kanji having up to five ways to pronounce it depending on context. No wonder the Japanese don't pick up other languages, they're all too busy trying to learn Japanese their whole lives.

Japan developed way faster than Korea did though.
