What's their deal? How's it going over there? Does anyone even live there?
French Guiana
It's bigger than a lot of nation and I think that's quite interesting
I love denmark
Jungle, rocket launchers, gold mining, criminality.
iirc there is a military outpost sort of town and they keep people there so our loggers and indios don't burn that side of the forest
That's where the french do their 'shady' stuff if you know what I mean
Big rockets
The James Webb telescope will be launched from there.
Does it count as France or is it it's own thing?
Looks comfy but kind of empty apart from the coast
More over, do they vote at France's presidential elections?
It's a French department like any others
Yup
Yes
Why is its GDP per capita over 10k lower than ours, when its France isnt it supposed to be first world?
Niggers.
You sure about that? According to my own 2 minute Google research, the GDP per capita of the French Guiana is around 18k dollars, vs Bulgaria's ~9k.
Ours is 27k per capita, nominal is 9k.
It's a total shithole. Some of my far relatives lived there and wouldn't recommend it.
We just keep it for the rockets launching capability, natural resources and I guess it makes a good military base too.
they launch satellites from there
Well I was talking about nominal. I guess they have a very low productivity but their prices get artificially pumped up a lot by being part of France/the EU and the €. I don't know.
Kinda missing out on making it 1st world and a proper market imo
It's a shithole, and would become an even bigger one if we left
I'm really sure how it could be done there desu, it's in the middle of the Amazonian rainforest, and it's barely populated. Just look at the neighbouring countries, Suriname and Guyana are even larger and they have something like half a million inhabitants each.
I don't understand why you won't invest in the place, and move a large quantity of mainland frenchmen over there. I think the place has a lot more potentiat than just being a giant rocket site
Nobody wants to live here it rains everyday, it's super hot and humid and it's dangerous.
This is the place where we put tough prisoners in the 19th century.
>and move a large quantity of mainland frenchmen over there
Because barely anyone would want to live there, especially Europeans. It's a humid shithole, infested with deadly animals and diseases. No human society can function properly in these conditions. This is also partly why countries in these latitudes don't develop well.
It used to be where we sent our prisoners in labour camps, which basically equated to a death sentence in horrible conditions. Watch the movie Papillon (1973).
We tried to move more frenchmen there multiple time throughout history and they literally just kept dying, some people even though the lands were cursed or some shit
Now you know why it's hard as fuck to develop the north.
It will soon get bigger when Jupiter takes the Amazonian forest from the hues
What about réunion? What goes on here?
French Hawaii, or is it more of a shithole?
French Hawaii
Réunion is good I wouldn't mind living here
weather can be shit tho
le melting pot
