Both sound awkward to me

Most people would probably say "he tried suggesting that they stay in their home."

Why does the Scots one have black lips?

Would it be a waste to spend 10-30 minutes a day learning hanzi if i dont want to learn Chinese yet? I plan on learning in a year or two but im focused on another language at the moment.
I figure i could start grinding hanzi now so i'd have a couple hundred already by the time i start learning chinese properly.

T-this is very wrong...
But fear not, I shall break it down for you.

First off you're using an auxiliary verb here (do) with a simple present verb (like), which is 100% fine and dandy in English, but also, only in English, really. The question must rephrased with the verb and the verb only.

Then, 'hvem som helst' is not the meaning of 'anyone, anybody' you're after; I don't think I can conjure up a decent way to explain the nuance here (other than perhaps 'anyone [at all]') but you want a pure pronoun, obv, ie 'noen'.

And then, I'd stick an adverb in there to round it all off:
Liker noen her hockey?
ie
Does anyone here like hockey?

Might also be:
Liker noen hockey her?
At least that word order seems more right to me, but it could be skewed by the fact I am viewing it thru a Swedish lens.

At any rate, hope it helped. Stay away from phrasings using auxiliaries + presents and you'll be good to go.
