This know as "no till culture". It works great when you only have packed solid to farm and there is to much weed.
You lay down a good layer of cardboard (so you kill what is inside) and lay compost over it. And then you put wood chips in the path ways (they help with exes moisture).
A lot of young people in Europe is doing it because good land is expensive, and they feed a family and pay for their land because they can sell their products at a premium because they don't use pesticides not chemical fertilizer.
Honestly, they suck at what they are doing. You need at less 200sqm to feed a single person. And this is just retarded.
