Japan has a distinct culture so they dont have to rely on american entertainment. Its not because you had better textbooks or teachers or because you are more intelligent. You arent superior to japs for speaking better English.

I unironically believe that stupid islander theory on why they suck at languages.
When you're on the island, you don't need to learn other people's language so you're used to your own. Meanwhile in on the continent even before English, many people in china knew multiple languages like Mongolian, Tibetan, Russian, Latin, native dialects etc. After all you need to deal with neighbours.
Same as why most people from UK only know English but Continentals need to know at least 2. If you're in Switzerland or Belgium, you sure as hell are required to know a few.

That's a lie, most of us are capable of speaking english because it's an indo-european language. I dont consume american or anglo medias (most of what they make is jewish subversion anyway). Only japanese stuff, the sole reason as to why i can communicate in english with you on this thread, is because of the influence my country and its language exerted upon it. The reason japanese people dont speak english or suck at it is because the language they speak isn't related to it, which makes the learning of the latter much more complicated than if it they were simply italian for instance, the word order isn't even the same, nor do their words besides borrowed ones.

But Singapore isn't really an island country. They are only one bridge away from Malaysia which why many of them can speak malay.
Also Singapore is mostly Chinese immigrants from southern China who are probably already used to speaking multiple languages as traders.

Knowing multiple languages was pretty common in Britain historically. And Japanese aristocracy used to learn and use Classical Chinese for a very long time. Furthermore, Britain was an empire and not insular at all.
Examples in England: Liturgical/literary Latin (once Christianised), Literary Old English (faded until displacement by Norman Old French) all alongside Middle English (the default).
And before then, Celtic languages and British Latin + Old English (going both ways but mostly Celtic and Latin speakers needed to learn Old English for social/economic mobility, which is why British Latin and most Celtic languages died).
Also, some form of Old English + Old Norse in a huge chunk of England to the extent of a large portion of English's core words being from Old Norse.

Anyway, the answer is probably this + Japanese having a decent population and their own media bubble (compare that to Finland's population) + Japanese cultivating a culture of ethnic narcissism, extreme snowflake syndrome to cope with colonial empires absolutely dominating their special super unique island (how they perceived themselves due to relative isolation). So like a double layering of narcissism. Hit perhaps with a third layer in ww2 with American/Allied occupation and subsequent unhindered Westernisation/Americanisation.
Furthermore, Finnish is still in contact with English through Europe and reflects European cultural developments throughout time. That's important for the semantics.

Another idea: Japanese phonology is too simplistic to be able to speak and hear other languages without much more practice than speakers of other languages need.
Maybe they know it better than you realise but very few can speak it at all.
