there is nothing similar in Europe, no company comes close to the American ones.
Why is USA so good when it comes about IT?
Low taxation. Europe is a shithole when you're a young rich and creative.
Lots of programmers and other IT people from western europe are moving to the US so they don't pay as high taxes and they often even earn much more for the same thing.
Europe doesn't give a shit about innovation and their future and instead of giving special tax breaks for IT specialists to keep them in their ocuntries who can easily move out of the country for something better they are taxing the rich through the progressive tax like crazy the result - America dominating on IT.
There are some good examples from Europe though like Sweden and Poland but that's miniscule still
>There are some good examples from Europe though like Sweden
Barely. Our government shills are still bragging about Skype.
To be fair, there is nothing that comes close to the Silicon Valley in the US either
I don’t know exactly but we had a bit of a head start in things like IT and Software. A lot of these things were birthed in America and we are a recepticle for the world’s talent. For some reason they just mesh well with American culture. We tend to things like finance and business services pretty well overall, but it’s not even really our bread and butter desu.
America took top-tier engineers from all over the world while Europe is busy bringing "engineers" from Somalia
indians and chinese immigrants
I skype not estonian?
spotify and minecraft are good examples though
>Europe doesn't give a shit about innovation
Not that good salesmanship isn't praiseworthy, but Silicon Valley isn't particularly innovative. They mostly just recycle government/university research in a way that appeals to markets, like Steve Jobs. Google is right now trying to steal an compression algorithm from a Polish mathematician.
But their innovations come from their great univerisities, which they invest a fuckton of money into R&D which Europe prefers to spend those money on Somalians or other welfare for lone mothers instead of funding the innovation and research on the universities.
The basic research behind those popular apps isn't nearly as American as you seem to think. The U.S is just a good environment for start ups, it's really as simple as.
>They mostly just recycle government/university research
Meme. There is no government/university research of any value. I won’t give details but I will just say I work at a place with a highly funded applied research laboratory working on “cutting edge” technology. Some of the DoD stuff is impressive but for the most part we look like cavemen to startups out there.
But this is exactly what I am talking about I'm talking about the climate for the innovativity and their great universities also low taxes for the upper middle class which sucks the professionals from Europe and other countries.
ssh, irc, linux; not companies though
>Meme. There is no government/university research of any value.
Then why the fuck do you try to steal them constantly :D?
Half I think.
Both of those are over 10 years old at this point. Spotify has never even ran a profit and isnt' really doing anything that Tidal, Deezer, Apple Music or whatever are doing, and Mojang is owned by Microsoft just like Skype.
When he says says "IT" he means "trending on the appstore".
>But their innovations come from their great univerisities
No it doesn’t. 90% of the money gets pissed into the wind. The other 10% produced “innovations” 50% of which are completely useless and nobody outside of the academic community will care about. All the real shit happens in American companies. Look at SpaceX. Kind of a meme but they do real shit and hire 100% America. Companies which receive government funding are more innovative than universities or research institutions by a mile.
>Then why the fuck do you try to steal them constantly :D?
What are you talking about? I work for one.
Are you honestly trying to use SpaceX as an example of a company that proves the input of public research wrong? If you look deep enough most private innovation is recycled university research. They might apply it even brilliantly, or improve it but the basic research is almost never done by companies because it isn't flashy.
Good education system that focuses on understanding instead of memorization like South-European countries. South European education system is unironically just as bad as Asian education.
Big tech like Google, Apple and Microsoft are 100% reliant on University mathematicians cranking out public domain algorithms. Sometimes they try to steal these (use convoluted patent laws to claim them).
LoL most us companies receive huge tax brakes from the US government and hide theirs money in offshores. And we have IT comanies. We should band their monopolizes and the English internet like china did.
But that's the price of innovation, you're investing lots of money into something that may not work, but then when it works the result is the economical benefit far greater than the initial investment
No. I’m using them as a company that are admittedly a meme but actually doing shit. 99% of University research is either worthless or shockingly low value. It is not as cutting edge as you think and the bureaucracy sink is absurd.
Linux isn't innovation
That’s not true. Anyone who is familiar with these environments can tell you the whole thing at Google and the like is they place this shit fast and loose. They don’t borrow anything from anybody. They don’t even follow basic standards and principles. They are not even as rigorous or “academic” as people working in finance. Some see that as a bad thing. Some as a positive but they are not the same.
There is almost no innovation. I understand why people think this but I can tell you from personal experience it is extremely underwhelming and most of it just gets wasted because of the big bureaucratic university machine. They basically funding and grant whores.
Linus was a Swede and his software powers the internet
Linus Torvalds is a Swedish-speaking Finn. Andreas Kling might become the next Linus Torvalds though.
Every major operating system that uses the Linux kernel aka Android and GNU were both developed in America
Also Linux itself was just an open source clone of Bell Labs UNIX
None of that stuff would exist without Linus
simple as
India
