This, people have been just regurgitating stale memes about the South and now think it's true. Much like most other places in the country, the average Southern person will be polite to you until you give them a reason otherwise. What sets them apart actually is that they're generally more kind and open to strangers in ways that substantially matter. Random mechanic shop in Mississippi fixed a friend of mine's car up free of charge once because he had the part just laying around and didn't need to spend more than ten minutes slapping it on.

Absolutely true but some Southerners do have this behind-closed-doors cliquey subculture that I have not experienced anywhere else in the US.

a lot of it is rural redneck idiots and urban hood niggers. there are exceptions, like new orleans and charleston, but for the most part the only thing the south has going for it is slightly above average food in most places and nice weather
