Americanisation has really had a tole on this country.
Things would be better if the council could build and market properties freely competing with private developers. Profits could go to maintaining and building new homes and apartments.
They would need much more freedom to remove problem tenants though.

I think they should be mandated to build once demand/prices are at a set level. That way the price of property would be predictable. The problem we have now is that developing property here is a high risk - high reward business.
There are too many restrictions on building houses in Dublin.
