Americans highly oppose high taxation of high tax brackets because the average American does not understand progressive tax brackets. They think if you enter a new tax bracket that tax rate applies to all your income, and therefore believe it's possible to increase your wage and end up making less money, which is not possible in a progressive tax system.

You can find stories of people turning down promotions and raises because it would "put them in a new tax bracket". This is so widely believed that some businesses intentionally pay people right near the line of tax brackets so they'll mistakenly never pursue increased wages.

You started as a agrarian country, then developed into a industrial capitalist country, and now you're a financial capitalist country, where export of capital is more vital to the economy than actual production. It's the highest stage of capitalism, parasitism becomes more pronounced in that system.

It's natural though, the ultimate goal of capitalism is to profit as much as possible while doing the minimum work possible.
