Northern coast speaks same dialect as Yemen due to centuries of trade. I think most Somalis don't speak Arabic, at least the ones I've met don't.

Basically they had a socialist President during the cold war who larped as an Arab Nationalist to join the Arab league and get support from Arab countries in his fight with Ethiopia, but he's been gone for 30 years but they're still considered officially Arab on all maps.
