What do Italians think of the Roman Republic/Roman Empire? Do they consider themselves Romans?
What do Italians think of the Roman Republic/Roman Empire? Do they consider themselves Romans?
Yes but most italians are illiterate retards who never learned history
That's just most people
I am Greek
I am a tyrsenoi
Which does an average Italian consider himself as, a pizzaguy or a spaghettiman?
WE WUZ ROMAN EMPERORS N SHEIIIT!
I am Roman (Eastern)
I do not consider myself roman
No, I am Yugoslav stock from ancient Austria-Hungary. Romans are brownoids.
>What do Italians think of the Roman Republic/Roman Empire
part of our past
>Do they consider themselves Romans?
By the end of the roman empire basically all of europe+mediterannean had the roman citizenship and romans lived everywhere in euope. So pretty much all of europe can claim that.
> Not four grandparents from Rome
Ngmi
only people living in Rome can be considered Romans
People from Rome consider themselves Romans
Another related question, do Italians take pride in their Roman heritage?
I know the North has a lot of Germanic influences (like the Lombards), do they feel connected to the Romans, or do they feel more connected to the Germanic invaders that came afterwards?
republic = based
empire = cringe
I wouldn't say a lot of influences, 90% of the culture was Roman / Catholic. Longobards mostly left some words and a bit of folklore
Hm fair enough
Still though, the area is still called Lombardia, and when I visited the area I saw a lot of stereotypical tall white "german looking" people. When I visited Rome I saw people that looked much more like ancient Romans.
That's kind of why I'm asking the question, if you're a very German looking Italian from Lombardia, most likely you have very little ancestry to the original Romans, so I wonder if Northern Italians, for that reason, take more pride in shit like the kingdom of the Lombards than the Roman empire/republic.
Or maybe I'm just overthinking it?
We are definetely more celtic looking. But I think pride has more to do with culture than race or ancestry especially when you go so far back. And Longobard culture left very little compared to Roman culture
I guess that makes sense, thanks for answering Italianon
There are huge differences between North and south, especially the south is genetically a mix of Arabian-Turkish-Black genes, speaking of Italian nation is just a joke.
I live in North Italy ( Lombardy named after the Swedish tribe Longobards) and here the phenotype is mostly Nordid among actual natives ( tall, quiet, fair, intelligent). Lombardy is full of 3rd gen southern diaspora who flooded after the war, ethnic Lombards are actually a minority and we're the ones working for pratically the rest of the country sending rome more than 150 billions a year in surplus taxes. We could be like Austria or Switzerland if we were indipendent.
Lombardy is much more like Germany/France than rome/naples that you know from TV series. It is wealthy (finance, industry, and fashion) and Teutonic culturally.
A lot of Northern Italians have white skin and green eyes. The dialects even sound more German.
So you telling me Northern Italians are subhuman?
Med italians are garbage.
I mean, i dont have anything against them, but these people are the worst med of whole Europe.
Northern italians are the master race , brilliant, we're rich and are successful, we work and hold a whole country.
What are italian southerners ?
Wankers, lazy, they cant talk to you without shouting, when they dont vote M5S they just love sandniggers and niggers, they are mentally niggers, they work like niggers, they act like niggers.
They are basically white niggers.
I dont hate them, but that's just what they are. White niggers.
That's why foreign newspapers depict us like that. North secession when?
How would that even work? Just the Po valley as a country?
Please don’t interrupt his edgy power fantasy user.
He was probably about to explain how as the only survivor of the lombard clan, it’s his duty to swallow all the dragon balls or something.
Most people don't know which countries border ðeir own. I remember back in 11þ grade when ðere was a question in an exam asking where Turkey was on ðe map, literally only 2 people answered correctly.
Look, there's a reason why the north still hates the south and it's because they're genetically unable to do anything productive due to mixing with muslims during the ottoman invasion.
That's why they have thicker, darker and curlier hair and that's why Lega Nord wanted a secession.
That's easy. No country does.
You could've used Southern Italy's Greek ancestry but instead you decided to use
>during the ottoman invasion
literally wtf. When did the Ottomans succesfully conquer a noticable part of Italy? When did they hold land for so long, and caused so much Muslim migration it caused a change in demographics?
Sicily was Muslim for 100 years though, but idk if they saw a lot of migration, even Spaniards aren't close to 50% North African, and they were ruled for much longer.
He doesn't make much sense. Even in the Muslim conquest of Sicily there was not much migration. The Greeks being in Italy has been a thing before even the Romans made their way down there.
Pizza is for cool young guys
Spaghetti is for refine silver foxes
Turks invaded Otranto where they made 813 Christian martyrs , Muslim emirates also include Bari and Taranto.
All three in mainland Italy. The only Sicily argument is for historical illiterates.
>Otranto
A single city that wasn't even controlled for a 100 years, in a nation of over a million people. Was there even any Turkish migration to Otranto?
>Bari
ruled by Muslims for only 30 years. Surely that left a giant mark on Italy's demographics, all those 20 Muslim migrants, if any at all.
>Taranto
I can't even find anything about that, let alone it being so influential it changed an entire demographic of people, or had any influence on it at all.
bro, all your examples are cherrypicked nationstates that were ruled by Muslims for barely a 100 years with no proof of migration.
Again, Spain was ruled by Muslims for 700 years and they have very little North African dna.
