We use the military budget to subsidize high-tech research and development, which allows our tech companies to stay competitive. Everything Apple or Microsoft has ever come out with has basically been technology developed by the US military (and paid for by the tax-payers) being modified for personal use. Most of the US defense budget is basically different ways to funnel government money and technology straight to US corporations to keep them competitive.

While what you said is partially true, and somewhat true in past, today your defense budget is wasted on failed projects, overpriced weapon systems with no real use, bloated army, and so on.

I just told you. Because they spend more on Military. My point is that relative to GDP our Military spending is not even top 3.

We have an absurd number of commitments because of defense treaties from the cold war era so we built up a ridiculous war machine that now powers our economy and has massive political clout despite it consisting entirely of unelected people. This political machine then uses its power and propaganda wing to assure that its funding increases so it can keep growing and becoming more powerful. Hilariously enough American President/War Criminal Barrack HUSSEIN Obama was the only president in my lifetime to have made any meaningful decrease in DoD budgets and even those were short lived.

It's pretty much same shit that happened to USSR. They spent so much on defense that over time MIC became too powerful and employed too many people, inhibiting any reform or cuts.
That's why they built T-64, T-72 and T-80 for example, even though it was functionally the same fucking tank. All three major tank factories had to be represented.
