Because its hot a dry and only good for farming.
Salazar was autistic and wanted to turn it to the "celeiro de Portugal " but nobody like living there and fled to the cities on mass.
I mean our salazar want wrong our counteg could be self sufficient on food but now with the eu and massive desertification and general uninteresst/lack of investment from our dumbfuck politicians we will never be self sufficient

Doesn't look that dry

might be like our extremadura, it actually rains in autumn/winter and turns somewhat green but summer is an unbearable hell of 40ºc nonstop

Hot and dry.

Latifundiaries and communists, both geriatric, living together makes for an extremelly stale economic ethos.

does portugal know what maintenance is???

Yes.

People there are the butt of jokes where the punchline is them being slow or lazy but you can't live through summer there without resting on the shade while the sun is high.

love how it's the same here
