we actually do that a lot, we even translate some names and last names, for example Christopher Columbus is Krzysztof Kolumb, or George Washington is Jerzy Waszyngton
but well, at least we did not translate Adolf Hitler to Adolfas Hitleris like Lithuanians

the loss of cities like Lwów and Wilno was prettu painful because these cities, especially Lwów were historically very dear to Poles but we got cool cities like Wrocław, Gdańsk and entire East Prussia instead
