In the fifities they were a major political party (up to 25-30% of votes), mainly due to the fact that :
1. We have a history of social struggle
2. They played a big role in the Resistance (whereas the patronat massively collaborated

Nowadays they declined, the left (or far-left) is represented by differrent parties.
The marxist class struggle rethoric is "old school", but still fundamental imo. It lead to some kind of schyzophrenia between this and the "american way" of identifying with the left (sexual minorities, ethnic minorities, minorities minorities).
Those identity politics are kinda incompatible with the very republican way of considering the citizenship that most French people share i.e." you speak French, you think in French, you went to a French school to learn French culture, now we garantee that you won't get discriminated based on your origin or identity, but being French must be the essential part of your identity". This mode is noble, but it shows some cracks.
It don't want us to become america, I want us to start singing the Chant des Partisans in the streets again

The EU is fundamentally tied to capitalism. Why would a proper communist support it. It’d be like a Russian supporting NATO

Communism isn't against capitalism. Only properly managed capitalism can deliver communism. You will fail to achieve communism without capitalism first.

Communism requires an industrialized society to function. To get to that point capitalism is necessary
This is why it’s absolutely retarded when some shitcountry where 95% of the population are sustenance farmers decide to have a communist revolution.

Planification (even with a capitalistic partnership) can hold great results. We have the reverse problem here, authorities have been trying to privatise healthy sectors that actually work, and it does not turn out for the best
