Sweden has let 10 times more people die per capita than the United States...

>Sweden has let 10 times more people die per capita than the United States, with barely any economic benefit compared to its neighbors.

>Here is one takeaway with potentially universal import: It is simplistic to portray government actions such as quarantines as the cause of economic damage. The real culprit is the virus itself. From Asia to Europe to the Americas, the risks of the pandemic have disrupted businesses while prompting people to avoid shopping malls and restaurants, regardless of official policy. Sweden is exposed to the vagaries of global trade. Once the pandemic was unleashed, it was certain to suffer the economic consequences, said Mr. Kirkegaard, the economist.
>What remained in the government’s sphere of influence was how many people would die. “There is just no questioning and no willingness from the Swedish government to really change tack, until it’s too late,” Mr. Kirkegaard said. “Which is astonishing, given that it’s been clear for quite some time that the economic gains that they claim to have gotten from this are just nonexistent.”

>Norway, on the other hand, was not only quick to impose an aggressive lockdown, but early to relax it as the virus slowed, and as the government ramped up testing. It is now expected to see a more rapid economic turnaround. Norway’s central bank predicts that its mainland economy — excluding the turbulent oil and gas sector — will contract by 3.9 percent this year. That amounts to a marked improvement over the 5.5 percent decline expected in the midst of the lockdown. While Sweden has benefited in the first 3 months according to a IMF study, that diminished as Swedes stopped shopping anyways. Hence has worse estimates, shrinking at 4.7% for the year.

>What remained in the government’s sphere of influence was how many people would die. And they failed miserably.

oh no no no
swedebros got too cocky

>Sweden has let 10 times more people die per capita than the United States
lol it's like 20% higher

cope

>Researchers at the University of Copenhagen gained access to credit data from Danske Bank, one of the largest in Scandinavia. They studied spending patterns from mid-March, when Denmark put the clamps on the economy, to early April. The pandemic prompted Danes to reduce their spending 29 percent in that period, the study concluded.
>During the same weeks, consumers in Sweden — where freedom reigned — reduced their spending 25 percent, practically with no difference with its neighbors who imposed lockdowns.

>Strikingly, older people — those over 70 — reduced their spending more in Sweden than in Denmark, perhaps concerned that the business-as-usual circumstances made going out especially risky.

Getting rid of a couple thousands of boomers and fat fucks is a societal gain in my book

>barely any economic benefit
>economic damage
>disrupted businesses
>vagaries of global trade
>economic consequences
>economic gains that they claim to have gotten from this are just nonexistent
Life isn't just GDP. Swedes got to continue living their life and even if the economy still suffered, families were not separated and people were not shut into miserable isolation for the past 4 months. Typical American publication measuring everything in dollars.

Sweden is cucked but they have been based about COVID.

We already pointed out the flaws in this article here a few weeks ago

It’s not even that. It’s typical “use statistics as a weapon not an instrument of science” article crafting that you see all over the place these days.

God, there really is something wrong with America.

>NYT hit piece to make Americans gobble up lockdown cuckery without actually providing any real analysis
Remember when lockdowns were about flattening the curve? About preparing for hundreds of thousand dead? Surprisingly the narrative has shifted to every single life matters and politicians are ready to close down the entirety of society for a what's essentially a severe flu season. Sweden isn't the outlier you guys are hoping for.

>nooo don't separate families
>boomers? YEAH KILL EM
big brain move

Swedes are based and everyone else is jelly

Just remember that our politicians should not be praised. If it turns out our strategy was decent it was luck.

>IF DOESN'T AGREE WITH ME IT ISN'T ANALYSIS!
>LOOK AT THIS STAT THAT AGREES WITH ME, NOW THIS IS ANALYSIS, I AM SO BASED PLEASE AGREE WITH ME

Hospitals where given directions to administrate morphine instead of oxygen to covid patients so it's not even memes.

I don't understand the obsession with Swedens Corona response. I guess people are afraid that their countries response wasn't the right one?

I don't know if Sweden did the right thing but that no lockdown wasn't positive for the economy is pure bullshit. You can't just compare with neighbors (Denmark and Norway) and make a conclusion. Our economies are vastly different.

I've seen several reports stating that lockdown has no effect on economy but far more showing that Sweden's response was positive.

It literally has opposite effects, did they just give up on those people?

>>Sweden has let 10 times more people die per capita than the United States, with barely any economic benefit compared to its neighbors.
USA and Sweden have 500 deaths per million, retarded sea spic

That is literally what the NYT wrote about. Your economic prospects got worse as the virus progressed around the world. Not only that, the perceived economic gains are little if there are any since world trade was shit and Swedes didn't spend much, barely different from a Dane or a Norwegian person under a clamped economy.
And in exchange thousands of people die.

That was a misquote my bad.
The article said 40 percent more than the united states. The 10x was Norway.

Retard. This article is bs. You would know that if you understood economics or statistical analysis.

They gave morphine to the ones they deemed needed palliative care.

aftonbladet.se/nyheter/a/GGk664/de-nast-intill-avlivar-de-gamla

This 81 year old man was put on palliative care despite the doctor never met him. They only gave him drip and his regular medicine after his son contacted the media. After that his health stabilized.

I don't know what to make of it but it looks nothing but wrong.

>4 months
>miserable isolation

Fucking normies.

Search deaths per million
Fuck amerimutt otan cia media

Sure, buddy.

Its funny how its the Zig Forumstier faggots , NEETs that don't go out of their house, have no friends, etc that complain about muh isolation

Let me tell you why that article is half-assed and doesn't provide any real analysis because it's riddled with trivial comparisons and some very flawed conclusions. Notice how they didn't interview a single Sweden? They didn't even bother to fetch data from a SWEDISH bank but rather used a Danish one that barely has any clients in Sweden. Nordea, Handelsbanken and SEB has data that show the opposite. It doesn't consider that the Nordic economies are fundamentally different, compare the exports. Swedes are very aware that the economy is going to suffer regardless of lockdowns or not, the economy was never the reason they didn't enforce lockdowns, it's simply Americans trying to pitch the false narrative of lives vs economy, it's non-existent here.

It's ridiculous to draw the conclusion that we would have a higher death rate SOLELY because of not locking down. The author never discusses that travelling in Sweden was much more extensive than compared to other nordics for the period of time. He doesn't mention the fact that Norway had an R0 hoovering around 1 when they decided to lock down or that Sweden had a death rate that was 3-5x higher than other Nordics before you would even see the effects of lockdowns. You never see experts making these ridiculous claims, leave it to a journo that couldn't even be bothered to talk to a single Swedish representative

theres nothing funny about it. people who already have only few chances of social contact suffer the most when even they are taken away.

> global economic slowdown
> wtf where are all the benefits

Good job breaking this down, Swedebro

>Sweden has let 10 times more people die per capita than the United States

yeah I bet Mr. Hannity

And yet, no one gives a fuck here. You die, you die. Shit luck but it happens.

It's about Trump. They have to throw shit at anyone not supporting the democrats narrative

Countries are getting hit by the 2nd wave and new cases in Sweden just keep lowering. They were right in the end. There wont be a 2nd wave there

Don't worry guys, it's just a bad flu. Sweden's strategy has been a success:

Freddie's youtube channel has been a godsend through this shitshow.

Who cares? Do you even know where Sweden is? I don't, and I don't care.

Yeah... I'm thinking based!

It's not time to judge the outcome yet.

About 10x more deaths than comparable countries, which is like 4-5x more when taking population size into account. And I believe they have yet to produce the "science" that their strategy was based on, which was obviously not the usual, well known facts about how viruses spread. I believe at some point they claimed it was due to some flu model in which they altered some parameters and suddenly found that keeping schools open, and thus letting super spreaders roam freely, is in fact a good thing. I think it somehow ties into their 18'th century "herd immunity" strategy.

It is a complete failure. They had literally no idea what they were doing.
