Ahahahah!
>Democracy in America was published in two volumes, the first in 1835 and the other in 1840. It was immediately popular in both Europe and the United States, while also having a profound impact on the French population. By the twentieth century, it had become a classic work of political science, social science, and history. It is a commonly assigned reading for undergraduates of American universities majoring in the political or social sciences, and part of the introductory political theory syllabus at Cambridge, Oxford, Princeton and other institutions. In the introduction to his translation of the book, Harvard Professor Harvey C. Mansfield calls it "at once the best book ever written on democracy and the best book ever written on America.
His book was extremely influential before in America but now I'm sure that barely anybody in America knows about it
Crazy how one of the best, if not THE best, books about the American condition was written by a French aristocrat.
I don't get it, why would we read a book about what a frenchman thinks about our country? Just cause the wikijew says its influential doesn't mean shit
Crazy how America exists because of a French aristocrat
America exists because of George Washington and the rest of the founding fathers. You still exist because of us saving your ass in WW2
weird, Im a history major(yah, laugh) and Ive never ehard of it. Just locke, voltaire, etc
Wow you managed 250 years of revisionism in two sentences.
Well it used to be. It seems to have fallen out of favor
Basically only republicans/conservatives read it anymore.
So no one since American conservatism died in 1945.
no, he was a celebrity here in 19th century. The joke is that he thinks most Americans have read any 19th century political or philosophical tracts
No I mean currently today. People on the left of the political spectrum would have no interest in reading anything with a positive outlook on America
Americans dont know who the fuck Tocqueville is. Iranian guy there assumed that our education curriculum was on par with theirs. Americans dont learn basic calculus in school ffs.
Maybe in Ghetto high. There were like 3 Calculus classes in highschool
You dont need to learn Calculus though in highschool and I say this as an Engineering major. Not everyone needs to know how to solve integrals or derivatives.
There are calculus classes but they not part of the "regular" curriculum as is the case in other countries (including Iran)
Learning calculus and working out hard math helps develop the mind. Its good practice too if you want to keep a sharp mind
No it's part of the regular curriculum. You just have to be smart enough to take the class. Good schools not whatever hole you came from have various classes
Why are Iranians so smart and cultured?
Hmmmmmm fair. Although I think serious reading of political contemporaries would do a better job of sharpening the mind. Or even learning a language.
I went to a good high school in a small (white) city of like 2500 students in the early-mid 2000s. We had calculus but barely anybody took it. Eat shit and keep defending an absolute disgusting excuse for an education system
Iran brings surprisingly good banter, honestly.
Not everyone needs to learn it though.
That's the fault of your classmates and your school not being good.
We should be doing all three. The OP image makes me laugh at the absurd state of our education.
kek
Iranian aren't that bad desu. We had a few of an here at my college and they were pretty nice and outgoing. Better than some other minorities.
>We had calc but barely anybody took it
So I don't see why it is the school's fault if nobody took it?
