I had business trip to a some small town near Beijing almost 3h by a car (small town 1.5 million). There was a lot more traditional chinese buildings than Beijing which was just commieblock jungle. For some reason chinese disliked the city and rather live in Beijing. There was a natural park and actual forests just within a walking distance from the city. Beijing was just awful compared to that. Why do chinese prefer those insects hive over smaller cities?

stockholm syndrome. Big city = big economy = lots of opportunities to make it. You're forced into it, so you learn to love it.

From what I understood they lived pretty comfy life there compared to Beijing people. Are the wages that much higher there or what? I didn't ask since here asking someones salary is a taboo. Didn't want to be rude
