Yeah the brand new automatics feel a bit safer these days. E.g. they don't just start rolling forward if its in drive like the old ones and some other safety features which I can't really remember because I havent driven one in a long time

huh? if anything you are more in control of the car, emergency braking is the same anyway and gear shifts is just a little blip on the throttle to make it do as you want, no spilling the beer or putting down the joint to shift gears. every auto i have driven did exactly as i wanted once i got used to them after a few minutes drive.
