A nation is what an entity that has claimed the monopoly on violence in a geographical area has decided it is. Nothing more. Nation, country, land; all of these terms mean nothing.

>im supposed to feel affinity to a certain bunch of complete strangers
Yes
>but enmity to another based on this nation thing?
Not necessarily
>why? how is that in my interest?
Because nations are identifiable natural blocs of human history that you belong to whether or not you've convinced yourself that you're a natural part of any collective beyond the 'nuclear family'
Nations, as all organisations, gain from economics of scale and synergy. A nation is more than the sum of its part. You are one of thoee parts. Being part of a nation gives you myriad of things like healthcare and defence and identity and history on an individual level without you having to fight for it on your own individual level.

>nations aren't real open your eyes xD
Is a low iq position no matter how convinced of their own intelligence anti-nationalist types love to present themselves as

This is because you don't live in a nation state.

It is very much in your interest as it allows you to deprive people not in your nation of things for the benefit of yourself and the members of your nation.
Much like a gang would operate fighting for teritory and the right to sell drugs, nations fight for teritory and the right to sell drugs.

Nonsensical argument, you are not a part of anything you did not agree to become a part of. Buing bread from a shop doesn't mean you're a part of his collective.

A nation takes more than it gives. In return for anything it provides, you are demanded to surrender your liberty to speak, move, or own possessions freely. On top of that deprivation, you are also forced to pay taxes.

Your identity is not defined by a nation or its history. You are not defined by anything except your own actions, regardless of how they may try to convince to the contrary.

Why are materialists so fucking brainlet tier?

>dude if it doesnt have atoms it doesnt exist and has no effect whatsoever on reality

>Because nations are identifiable natural blocs of human history that you belong to whether or not you've convinced yourself that you're a natural part of any collective beyond the 'nuclear family'
nonsensical argument for various reasons.
one history does not exist an objective thing.
secondly those blocs aren't natural they are imputed.
>natural part
i identify with groups but i don't have any delusion that such groups are natural. i am akin to people who like the early episodes of the simpsons for example - peopel who enjoy that is a group i belong to.

>gain from economics of scale
why wouldn't the world gain from this?
>synergy
buzz word? i can point at many countries without it.

>Is a low iq position no matter how convinced of their own intelligence anti-nationalist types love to present themselves as
'hurr your dumb' doesn't strengthen your point

it is real in your head,, but its no more real than the things that appera in my dreams or santa claus.
santa claus is real because children get all excited about him and he makes a massive dent on people's perception of december 25th and hw people celbrate it.
he's still not real.

Based social constructivism

not even social constructivism - that assumes there are some fixed things like other people. other people are an imputation on reality. even distinct thoughts or instances are not necessarily tied together.
we must go further.....

Social class is all that matters, I can be untouchable anywhere if I'm rich and powerful enough and play my cards right.

how old are you? don't lie.

>you are not a part of anything you did not agree to become a part of.
this doesn't hold up under any sort of scrutiny, roles or identites can be enforced on people, and people inherit traits or identities whether they realize it or not

nation is language + religion, nothing else

what if you're bilingual?

Is this another one of Mishima-kun's work?

then the nation ur father belongs to is the best way to determine urs

nations are made up imaginary tools for ownership of people and lives.

no

you were rejected by your culture for being unwilling to socialize, this made you bitter, and now you are willing too throw away centuries of history for the sake of your own ego.

>you were rejected by your culture for being unwilling to socialize
wrong i have friends from britain. i also have friends from abroad.
>this made you bitter
wrong
>and now you are willing too throw away centuries of history
not so much throw away as admit never actually existed and is essentially a myth
> for the sake of your own ego.
i have no self.

That film is Death by hanging, correct?

A nation is an ethnic group, it's not rocket science

Same for you, Mr. Spanish-or-Germanic-last-name

what is an ethnic group/

A group of people with shared language, history, culture, ancestry, etc.

I'd define "nation" as a group of people of a similar ethnic and cultural background (less so in modern times which is part of the reason why people like op exist)
a good nation should be about maintaining a cultural history, giving citizens a sense of identity and trying to improve the lives of the citizens through;
-Increased trading power
-increased fighting capabilities (for external threats)
-enforcement of laws (punishment of criminals)
-gaining more power (through diplomacy or other means)
-not being abandoned
Etc.

There's a reason we naturally form groups, but do to the degradation of modern cultures and identities I can understand why people lose pride in their nation, to be honest I don't feel much for Canada

Yes

>language
so a black guy
>history
so friends?
>culture
so a black friend who likes the same music and food as me
>ancestry
i don't know my ancestry as such, never done any reasearch into it, so do i lack a nation/

>ethnic
what is this
>cultural background
what does this mean?
>cultural history
what does this mean
>giving citizens a sense of identity
i have a sense of identity outside of my interractions with the state
>trying to improve the lives of the citizens
can't the UN try to improve my life? or microsoft? why does britain
>Increased trading powers
ironially states are the ones who put up barriers and tariffs
>fighting capability (For external threats)
but what is truly external
>enforcement of laws
why do we need an abstract nation to do tihs, can't this be done on smaller or larger levels?
