Sir Samuel Romilly, speaking to the House of Commons on capital punishment in 1810, declared that "[there is] no country on the face of the earth in which there [have] been so many different offences according to law to be punished with death as in England".[2] Known as the "Bloody Code", at its height the criminal law included some 220 crimes punishable by death, including "being in the company of Gypsies for one month", "strong evidence of malice in a child aged 7–14 years of age" and "blacking the face or using a disguise whilst committing a crime". Many of these offences had been introduced by the Whig Oligarchy to protect the property of the wealthy classes that emerged during the first half of the 18th century, a notable example being the Black Act of 1723, which created 50 capital offences for various acts of theft and poaching.[3] Crimes eligible for the death penalty included shoplifting and stealing sheep, cattle, and horses, and before abolition of the death penalty for theft in 1832, "English law was notorious for prescribing the death penalty for a vast range of offences as slight as the theft of goods valued at twelve pence."

Ryoji Uehara, a flight captain of the IJA and was killed in action as a Kamikaze pilot at the age of 22.
His final letter "My Thoughts" written the night before his final mission is regarded as a masterpiece of wartime literary works in Japan.
>My Thoughts: It is clear that authoritarian and totalitarian regimes may prosper temporarily, but they will ultimately be defeated. We can see that in the Axis governments. As manifested by the defeat of Fascist Italy, not to mention Nazi Germany, they are collapsing one after another like buildings without foundations.
>The ambition of making my beloved Japan become as mighty as the British empire has faded away. If the leading positions had been held by true patriots, Japan wouldn't have been driven into the situation it faces today. Japanese people who walk confidently anywhere in the world, this was the ideal of my dreams.
>A pilot of the Special Attack Unit is merely a machine. The machine that takes the control stick, possessing neither personality nor emotions, is only an iron molecule within a magnet that will stick to an enemy aircraft carrier. If one thinks rationally, this act is incomprehensible and these pilots are suicidal. Since I am nothing more than a machine, I have no right to say anything. I only wish that the Japanese people will make my beloved Japan great.
>Tomorrow is the sortie. One liberalist will depart from this earth. His appearance from behind is lonesome, but his heart is full of contentment. I said only what I wanted to say. Please forgive my rambling. Well, here I will stop.

Labour had to turn into New Labour to be able to compete. Corbyn tried to oversee a return to Labour's leftwing roots and Labour saw its worst performance in almost a century. Since the 1970s the forces of conservatism and reaction have been setting the terms of debate.

How long do you think it took the british colonies to lose their british accent? American accent seems more similar to irish accent than british, but australian is more similar to british. If you watch TV from like the 60s and 70s in australia even then there accents were way more british. Kinda hate what the australian accent has become to be honest. It's so cheap and nasal and people think it's cool to sound like a bogan.
Listen to the accent of the student at 1:54 and tell me it doesn't just sound lovely. I wish we could go back to the aussie accent being like that.
