Lully and Rameau are better than Debussy, Ravel, or Faure
>i heckin' love classical music bros!!
French art history seems to alternate between periods of incredible originality and absolute stagnation, much more than in Italy or Germany. What explains this?
Elaborate on this
>absolute stagnation,
when?
>Johann Sebastian Bach

You must be a genius
For example in music you have Lully inventing a new kind of opera that breaks with the Italian tradition, inventing conducting, exploiting the potential of large ensembles much more than Corelli did, Rameau's theoretical revolution in harmony, then a bunch of talented but conventional composers until modern music begins with Debussy. And a similar thing with Watteau's individualism in the ancien regime and then stuffy Academicism until Manet
Too busy digesting wagnerian revolution I guess
>French Impressionism
French music stagnated even before Wagner though

Why can't Fr*goids compete with their neighbors when it comes to music? All they could really manage was some ethereal piano jingles. Almost as bad as B*ngoids.
