There are no Russian interests in that particular issue other than holding the principle of non-interference in internal affairs of other states. Russian top politicians shit on Luka just as much as Europeans do

Yes. We're ruled by the same guy for the last 30 years, in practice. Formally he was out of politics at one point and he switched between being a president and prime minister but it's all charade. He's the guy in charge.
He picked Western side in 90s so they let him pass.
But in all other aspects, we're even worse than Belarus. Post-communist reforms here were basically ruling party running everything to ground and selling it for nothing to their friends and foreigners who bribed them, getting rich in the process.
There's no line between organized crime and state, and they remain in power by clientelism and by constantly provoking political and ethnic/religious division.
Everything is controlled by the party, judiciary, prosecutors, police, army...at several points they even created false opposition parties which then ran to support them when it was critical, in order to preserve ''democratic'' charade.
In 2016 they saw they were losing elections and they staged a false coup attempt in order to stop people from voting. They staged a kangaroo court which embarrassed itself and tried to frame some foreign guys. Recently Interpol dropped the case for being politically motivated.
These last few years, corruption scandal followed a corruption scandal, a rogue businessman went against them after they tried to destroy him and seize their property, and last year in December they pushed through a law that's basically confiscation of church property, partly because they want to loot it and party because it's a good subject to distract people from open and pervasive corruption of an incredible scale.
But it backfired, you had huge protests which were far larger than Belorussian ones when you take into account proportionality, and then corona struck, which wrecked our tourist industry and means we'll go bankrupt soon.
So now, they pissed off most of population, the church, and it seems some circles in Brussels, so they're fighting for their lives.
