National identity doesn't have to do with being proud of something. It has to do with being something, feeling kinship to other people of your nation, having a thriving culture that you feel a part of. You CAN be proud of it too like I am of the achievements of social democratic system but that isn't really the point of national identity. It's just who you are.

No, it serves us to bring us closer to each other, to have a welfare state that looks out after the poor and ensures meritocratic system. I don't know what kind of academics there are in the continent but over here this is not the case.
