What's the best museum in the world? For me, it has to be the British Museum and it's not even close.
It's the only place where you can get a comprehensive history through mankind because we looted artefacts from everywhere.
You can walk through a chronological evolution of human civilisation through ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, Assyrians and every other ancient civilisation.
There is no other single museum worldwide that comes close to the varied collections from every single historic civilisation you can think of
Oh, and best of all; it's free entry for everyone.
Wyatt Young
>Called the British museum >has nothing to do with Britain's history Weird how every other country has a museum dedicated to their own history but we don't.
Isaac Bennett
>museum dedicated to artefacts stolen with the might of the British Empire >not British history if anything, it's British culture in it's purest form there are sections about British history but really it's a world history museum
Lincoln Garcia
I prefer the National Gallery as far as art is concerned
Benjamin Rivera
it's not just about art though but if it was I would still prefer the Victoria&Albert museum but that is much more than just paintings
Brayden Davis
yes the BM is pretty amazing, the rosetta stone and elgin marbles alone make it the best museum on earth
Thomas Rogers
I made so many spelling mistakes, ignore my comment lol
Jason Wilson
They might not have the elgin marbles for much longer though
Noah Hughes
there is no pressure whatsoever to give a donation, the boxes to donate are there are but in the 2 times i visited, no one actually asked me to donate
all of the main museums in london are free entry
Connor Walker
nonsense, we will never let go of the elgin marbles, the greeks have been chimping out for years in the room where the marbles are, there is a stand with leaflets which explains about the greek seething and why the british museum will never give them up
John Peterson
Apparently the EU wants to make returning them part of Brexit negotiations
Noah Scott
Greeks destroyed dozens of mediaeval structures on the Acropolis in the late-19th and early-20th centuries as part of a deluded LARP in which they wanted to 'cleanse' it of its post-Classical additions. For that alone they should be laughed at. That being said, I don't condone the actions of that pesky Scotchman, Lord Elgin
Oliver Rogers
apparently according to one speculating article 3 years that was based on precisely nothing you saw a mention of that on Zig Forums one time and think it's a serious thing but it's nothing and you know literally nothing about brexit negotiations
stfu you dumb yank
Isaac Harris
Why not? He acquired them legally, didn't he? Nothing even malicious about it. I don't like them being called "Elgin" marbles because it takes away from their actual content.
John Rivera
>stfu you dumb yank The correct response is the hilarious 'shut up fat'
why would you prefer to see them back in greece? for the average person, it is far better for all of these artefacts to be seen at once in one singular museum
Evan Cruz
Good point, I think I've seen them there and change my mind. It wasn't exactly a strong opinion.
James Cox
The way we ended up with all of these artefacts probably isn't fair but it's a great thing to see it all in one place
The British Museum is amazing, there is literally bits of EVERYTHING there
Hudson Parker
I'm going to need to see a perfect index listed with supposed "looted" contents marked to make up my mind whether they are. There's a lot of whining but no substance behind them I think. Whatever the case, its amazing and the home of those artifacts.
Andrew Ramirez
'looted' is a debatable concept though and can't be proved either way
elgin marbles are probably the most controversial but they were obtained legally, at the time the ottomans ruled greece and they gave thomas elgin permission to remove them and bring them back to britain
Been there it's awesome Thank you brits for beig everywhere and stealing their stuff Pls colonise everything again
Angel Ross
Never been in england so i don't know for the BM. But for me it's the Louvre. Biggest on area, biggest collection. But it's mainly around the Mediterranean Basin, no asian and sub-saharan african artifacts, i guess it's the big advantage of the BM, there are less objects but they are more varied.
Brayden Phillips
thank you for your appreciation someone had to do it
Elijah Mitchell
Also, the British did nothing wrong, those objects are better protected in Europe from being steal, sell on the black market or even destroy than they are in their country of origin.
Nicholas Moore
>Never been in england so i don't know for the BM. >But for me it's the Louvre. Biggest on area, biggest collection. you should come here and visit the BM For history overall and an impressive varied collection then you can't beat the BM If you're talking about paintings only then the Louvre is the best but overall it cannot touch the BM
Zachary Bailey
I will soon, when the corona crisis will end i'm gonna go to England to see this by myself, looks amazing. Thanks British user
