Outside of March/April, I don't think anybody thinks China is hiding any figures. They've lifted lockdown after March, and they've allowed flying inside their own country for more than half a year. Theatres are open, gatherings (of any size) are allowed, and barely anybody wears a mask any more.

If you go on YouTube and look up "China festival" you can see millions gathered in a crowd celebrating. Or hell, western travelbloggers visiting tourist spots and seeing thousands of people not wearing masks and gathering.

Nobody should have trusted us after we illegally invaded a UN member state just a decade after we attacked that same UN member state for doing the same thing.
