My son was talking to a friend on discord when we were out driving the other day. They conversed in english. The usual banter talk.

When i asked him where his friend was from he said "Sweden!"

I then asked why are you speaking english to eachother.

My own flesh and blood replied that swedish was to difficult to understand...

like norweigans could understand scanian or some other mongo dialect when swedes can baerly do it
but yeah. its jus a matter of time before our own languageses are replaced by english.
its already happend in denmark
you go on the buss in denmark and all you hear is "yo wtf mand. wicked cool mand"

lmfao do they really

leaving the fjords was a mistake

Its not that big of a tragedy considering English is germanic language too, when i was learning Norwegian for my university i was surprised how similar everything was to english

what has become of my ancestors............................. VGH

If you can't understand Scanian you are a brainlet.
Depressing.
Our languages are extremely similar to English.

it's an American world, you're just living in here

lol norwegians are becoming retarded

yeah just like it's similar to chinese

yes, danes are retards who are incapable of comprehending more than one language at a time

lmao
will 2040 scandinavians speak english, or arabic?

Your primary concern should be the channel admin grooming him.

What about comprehending Danish?

this

We'll speak to your sister in bed

Lol, by that point what would be the difference between you and canadians other than being in Europe?

polski

I had some Norwegians in university class and you can mostly speak to them without problem but then there is one word you can't understand every other sentence and it's really annoying.
You also don't have a son.

I really don’t even understand how such a thing is possible. 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants that are used in the US speak their parent’s native language exclusively at home and not even all the time and they somehow manage to know it perfectly well.

Correct, his son just became his daughter

map is wrong, tibetan is agglutinative

Nordic languages are just dialects of one language, if you are not exposed to other dialects it becomes hard to understand.

Slovak and Czech are same, and now that we have both everything dubbed in our own languages some young Czech kids dont understand Slovak, but i will say that Scnadinavian languages are less similar than those two

>yeah just like it's similar to chinese
I didn't say that the meme map is the sole reason why our languages are similar.

Tbf some norweigan dialects are very hard to understand even as a swede, like the northern ones are really difficult

What probably happened is that they met in a WoW guild or something where everyone just spoke English with each other normally and then they just got used to that.

being white

Æ e fra Tromsø

Why would that surprise you? Our language was mutually intelligible with English 1000 years ago.

>My son
Reminder that we are going to start reading posts that mention sons and daughters increasingly over the coming years as Anons flaunt their reproductive success.

I would not be a problem if English hadn't replaced
>I eke
with
>me too
or
>I hight
with
>my name is

>Our language was mutually intelligible with English 1000 years ago.
No, you've misunderstood this. That's definitely not the reason why they're so similar. German was mutually intelligible with English for just as long. Somehow mainland Scandinavian languages have evolved in the same direction as English in the last centuries. Completely coincidentally.

would have been pretty cool

or if English hadn't come up with that stupid "do" thing
>I don't know
instead of
>I know not
or the loss of "thou"

Okej ja då borde dom ju kunna förstå varandra. Det är nog mycket en vanesak, jag minns när jag var i Norge och att det tog några dagar för att fullt förstå vad folk sa favä

The real question though
British or American?

American youtube accent

>dom
Svara ärligt, vet du verkligen inte skillnaden på de och dem?
Yes it's weird but I'd say that such things are more likely to happen when one group of speakers is separated from the rest.

based
I've noticed a lot of scandi youtubers do this for some reason

YO WHATS UP GUISSEE BACKATCHAGAIN WITH A NOTHA YOUTUUUBE VIDEYOO

Old anecdote I've heard many times is that back in ye olde days Norwegians from around x fjord could not understand norwegians from y fjord even if there was 10km between.
Similar thing I've heard about old Italian languages/dialects where each town and even tiny villages spoke very differently to each other.

Well at least it was a Germanic language

Some norweigan girl said she liked my accent in a csgo match

In swedish we lost the Ni

unironically how do I learn Norwegian

Because American sounds more neutral than British to us and because we are a lot more exposed to American media

The thing is.. i heard the other swedish friend's family in the backround and they sounded like stockholmers to me. so very intelligible. I understood everything they said. I mean. There are norwegian dialects that i can't understand. Stockholmers are closer to us and yet my son is a fucking dunce

My mom got a bit upset when zoomers spoke English to her in Ljubljana
She can understand Slovene better than English because of her native dialect but they coudn't understand her
She can understand but can't speak Slovene unlike my dad

>we lost the Ni
What are you even trying to say? That we lost the formal (plural) pronoun? That wasn't a spontaneous change, it was an organized movement initiated by the ruling socialist party.

Same way you learn any language, genius

I thought the sea would have kept people together
