what were we supposed to do? we had no other choice. WWI was complete disaster. we lost almost half of entire population in WWI and war of independence. we were down to throwing rocks at invading Gayreeks and carrying bayonet tied to stick. we kill like one guy and then we die. for many years afterward government give tax incentive to any couple who have at least three kids.

Inonu make right choice. we wouldn't survive losing another 1 million plus men in battle and joining either Axis or Allies would have been suicide. instead we stay out of war and get reward with UN and eventually NATO membership for it.

the invasion of the Low Countries, Norway, and Denmark was done primarily to secure the Atlantic coastline for Germany to prevent Allied landings. Sweden was not on the Atlantic so it didn't serve such strategic value. i'm not sure if Sweden would have been a bigger obstacle to conquer than the others since i don't know very much about their military strength at the time.

Berlin were able to jawbone Sweden into selling them iron ore and allowing Wehrmacht troops to use railways to go from Norway into Finland during Operation Barbarossa. so that was apparently enough.

i'd imagine Sweden was fairly weak just like the rest, maybe a little more powerful than the likes of Denmark.

We were much stronger than those other countries. Not to the point where a German invasion would have been impissible, it would still be very possible. However Sweden would have been a greater obstacle. And at the sime time, as you said, held less strategic importance.

The most important strategical value of Sweden were the Iron ores, which is why the British actually planned invading northern Sweden (and the German had plans of invasion too). In the end, invading Sweden wasn't worth it. It would've meant more of an effort than those other countries but much less strategical value.

We joined WW1 to regain our lost lands but it ended up being a disaster for us. There was no need for us to join WW2. Even then WW2 was felt here. Even buying basic things like bread required having necessary papers
