ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE

I moved when I was 12 from there to the UK. The humor amongst the alt-normie youth is very reddit (anyone who is somewhat net-literate has that soy reddit vibe). Mainstream TV is ABYSMAL, like terribly bad (especially daytime tv and humor-based shows).

It's a little bit backwards in terms of culture and technology in general and I feel like a lot of people wouldn't know about the bands, books or shows I like, but I live in rural England so the change wouldn't be massive either way.

People can be shallow-minded, selfish, greedy and jealous. The average Portuguese person isn't a very deep thinker and is concerned with the material world.

Lisbon is fucked. The entire country has been swallowed by tourism gentrification. I went out to get some food and the fucking staff spoke to me in English even though I'm perfectly fluent in Portuguese

the bureocratic side of Portugal is AWFUL. government institutions are archaic as fuck both technologically and systematically and government workers have hard headed dogmatic views on how things should be done.

Obsession with football (very "bread and circus" kinda country).

ON THE POSITIVE SIDE

the weather and landscape are excellent. Portugal is a truly beautiful place. Portuguese people have strong core family values and cook really tasty food. the less touristy areas are very chill and nice (lakes and lagoons around the lisbon area are largely touched by tourists and look great). Portugal hasn't been as globalized culturally as other places either so it still has an authentic feel in most places.

It's gotten a lot better in the past 15 years, to be honest. Much better than places like Germany or even the UK from the stories I hear.

I don't watch tv (or very rarely) but the fact a lot of people do means they're consuming this garbage.

I hope Portugal evolves, anyways. It needs a cultural and artistic revolution, I think.
