Why did all these countries use to be Europe-tier rich in the 20th century but then decayed to 4th world status? It can't be the Spanish, they left way before.
Why did all these countries use to be Europe-tier rich in the 20th century but then decayed to 4th world status...
Brazil has a bigger gdp than Macedonia
What you're talking about? Only Argentina had that.
>too high birth rate to provide land/jobs to the increasing population and political instability that ensued afterwards
>not being able to develop modern industry when extensive farming stopped being so profitable (kind of a Dutch disease)
>the fact that they were never Europe-tier rich, income gap in South American countries was always much higher than in Europe and a big part of population (especially in Brazil) was completely deprived of any rights, just white European immigrants treated them as invisible and claimed that if a white man lives well then the country is good overall.
>if a white man lives well then the country is good overall.
Seems fair to me
Cringe bullshit, I'm white and my family was just as fucked as the anyother fucked brazilian.
No, that was only 30s and 40s Argentina before Peronism and Venezuela from 40s to 70s before their debt crisis.
Venezuela too
>whites had it like everyone else!!!1111
>white privilege does not exist!!!111
>Birth rate Poland
1.39
>Birth rate Brazil
1.74
Peru was far from being Europe-tier rich in the 20th century, it was feudalism-tier back then (with the exception of major cities)
youtube.com
Where can me and my family get that privilege? My entire family came from the poorest area of the poorest region, literally lifted himself out of the deepest shithole he could and you're here saying that crap.
Countries by GDP in 1950
nationmaster.com
It was all Peru at one point, except Brazil and Venezuela
>population of Poland 1920: 27 million
>population of Poland 2020: 38 million
>population of Brazil 1920: 30 million
>population of Brazil 2020: 210 million
Venezuela is pure oil, just like gulfies. Their economy is entirely focused on it and that doesn't really make you a firstoid, one day they would get ass blasted just like they did.
DR has never been europe tier rich... ever
it was not as bad during the dictatorship i guess, but still not good either.
If that were Poland you wouldn't have to worry about Russia
if South America was ever as rich as Europe then South American cities would have European-tier historical lower middle class neighborhoods from that era. Meanwhile in cities like Rio de Janeiro or Buenos Aires you have only palaces in the centre and favelas around them while the scarce middle class lives in modern tower blocks or modern gated neighborhoods.
We are talking about the past, not today. Venezuela was a central immigration point for people from all over the world up until 1950 due to how boooming and lavish the quality of life was there durin gthe XX century. Venzuelans went to Miami and bought stuff by the dozens when most South Americans except for argies still lived in shacks adn were mostly rural
>Why did all these countries use to be Europe-tier rich in the 20th century
Things that never happened
we're talking about economy and not geopolitics
>7 were new world countries
wtf happened bros... we were so powerful
As I said before, inflated gdp by oil. I doubt most Venezuelans had that wealth.
>I doubt most Venezuelans had that wealth.
No one cares what you think, reality is completely different and even up to this day Venezuealns abroad are laughably rich. Everyone went to Venezuela because money was EVERYWHERE. italians, aspaniards, colombians, dominicans, arabs. Everyone flooded the place for the first half of the XX century
If we stayed with 30 million we would be both irrelevant and a shithole instead of being just a shithole. We simply lacked the whites, even Poles would have sufficed to become Japan tier at least
Any source for that? Or it just bullshit? There's many brazilians that could buy your entire city if they wanted, that doesn't make me rich.
>and a shithole
No, because you wouldn't have these huge districts of urban poverty as most of your population would live in rural areas and could make a living from farming, while only people striving for education would migrate to cities.
Favelas started around the beggining of the XX century, many building were destroyed to build avenues, expand streets and etc... So many buildings you expect were destroyed, Europeans cities didn't need to do that since they aren't even near as large and populated and they are much older. You really expect cities that increased from 100k inhabitants to 3,5,10 million to look the same?
Venezuela was superior to Argentina or any other Latin American country for most of the XX century
weforum.org
They were 6x richer than you by 1950
"Early on, Venezuela’s oil was a game-changer.
By 1950, as the rest of the world was struggling to recover from World War II, Venezuela had the fourth-richest GDP per capita on Earth. The country was 2x richer than Chile, 4x richer than Japan, and 12x richer than China!"
>There's many brazilians that could buy your entire city if they wanted
Wrong. Not even the richest Brazilian gets close to my City GDP
Our countries was made by some whites who was sad for dont be european but dont wanna left the land that they stolen to the natives.
The latin countries aren't made to compete in the modern world, they only exist to the only purpose to maintain the white people in the top of the social pyramid
I already told you that those numbers are useless, do you know how gdp per capita is calculated?
You get total gdp and divide it by the population, that doesn't take inequality into account, if "mr zhang" have 50% of the country gdp his wealth is going to be considered the whole country's wealth by a stupid guy like you, just because you think that diving total wealth per population is useful to measure how developed a contry is.
This, you understand latinoamerica
The least urbanized country in SA is Paraguay and they are worse than us, in NA it is Guatemala, even worse than Paraguay and they both have less than 20m pop
based encomenderos cucking the indians until 1970
You can't talk about latam without talking about race, whatever the subject
seems roca missed some of you guys sadly
Venezuela was the place where eveyone wanted to be in hte XX century. Hundreds of thousands of Spanish, Italians, Portuguese, Germans, Arabs, Latin Americans. Americans, Chinese. Everyone was flooding into Venezuela during the oil boom. There were jobs for everyone, everyone sent money back home. You must be a bit slow if you don't understand that people do not migrate to a place if things aren't going fantastic, or at least better than back home, in said country. While most people in your country were hicks, Venezuelans were flooding Miami loading up on stuff by the dozens. You, me, everyone in South America except for Argentinians were illiterates in their eyes back in 1950, then the tables turned. You really thing that the shitty situation in Vneezuela is historic? No, Venezuela started going downhill in 1992, before that they were superior to you in every single way you imaginable
>>too high birth rate to provide land/jobs to the increasing population and political instability that ensued afterwards
Birth rate is by no means as large as it looks like. The numbers in are inflated on one side by immigration, and deflated on the other by emigration and war.
>not being able to develop modern industry when extensive farming stopped being so profitable (kind of a Dutch disease)
I strongly agree with this. Brazil for example was fucked up when coffee prices dropped down, as it had no relevant second sector to rely on.
>the fact that they were never Europe-tier rich
Some countries were. Namely Venezuela and Argentina.
Argentina was fucked up by poor policies, and Venezuela by Dutch disease.
>just white European immigrants treated them as invisible and claimed that if a white man lives well then the country is good overall.
That's outright incorrect because the major poverty was in the rural zones and those were where most immigrants ended. Most of the city population boom was not done by immigrants, but by their descendants. (São Paulo is maybe an exception but it confirms the rule as living standards there are higher than the folks up north.)
I think you have a better chance to understand what's up with Latrine America if you check means of production instead.
