I would be perfectly fine with the cities doing whatever stupid shit they wanted to themselves, the problem is that they want EVERYONE to fall in line with their bureaucratic vision and they won't stop until they enforce it upon everyone. The best way to fix American politics would be to allow proper localism again. Fundies don't have to worry about abortion clinics being built nearby and coastal career women don't have to panic about abortions every two years.
Ex-gf lived in Dublin (I've never visited it) for some years and was mesmerized when we traveled to NYC. I wouldn't classify NY and SanFran as shitholes at all (dk DC), being a traveled guy myself. Big cities might just not be your cup of tea, I bet you dislike London.
