Can you military fags explain to me why tanks look literally the same since they first were invented? Wouldn't it get outdated after a 100+ years?

> same since first invented
basic philosophy may be the same but they have changed by a lot, few things :
- new advance armour to prevent deep penetration, new ones literally shiet
- atgm protection system, early warning systems, smoke dispensers, radars, etc. which was non-existing in the earlier systems
- different sorts of armaments for a different range, penetration, etc.
- digital control, more ease of work
- air conditions, toxic air protection, even oxygen regeneration systems
- next gen work for remote controlled turret (machine gun)
- ability to record share data in real time
- increase in mobility
Basic structure may look same but if try to look closely you can see the new armours, optical system to operate in night, things like above mentioned which you can't see directly.
Next-gen is the drastic one which will see a significant change in philosophy. FICV, FRCV will always be needed.
Also, no matter how much you bomb, victory is always measured by Feet and you will need something strong to back your feet on the ground.
They are great once you have established air dominance.

Body of that tank reminds me of BMP ngl.

thanks for the informative reply, only thing i wonder about is
>new ones literally shiet
what did he mean by this

VGH how i wish i were more alpha, I would sign up for la légion and fight france's enemies

convergent design
thats it
it's the same for airplanes, early aircraft designs were all wacky and varied until designers developed a good grasp of the field and corrected most issues, and while you still see some unusual designs crop up, they all have been converging for decades
that's because the laws of aerodynamics are all the same for everyone, no matter if you're Boeing, Airbus or Sukhoi
successful designs stick around, unreliable or subpar designs are thrown out, and because designers are all trying to address the same issues then the forces that act on their designs are the same and so similar solutions crop up

France has unique looking vehicles

A Polish T-72
It's a battering ram, only improvement needed is making it tankier and shoot better.
It runs straight through defences blowing up things then mechanised infantry in APCs come fill the gap at cheaper price than a ton of missiles since a hellfire missile is 70k each while a tank can lob shells that cost only several thousand dollars.
New active defence literally shits out metal balls like a shotgun to destroy incoming rockets and missiles.

same occurs with cars btw, and that's why you hear boomers whine about how cars all look the same nowadays
it's just designers optimizing their products for the environment/workload they're going to perform on
people tend to worry more about fuel efficiency than appearance

Don't cars have to pass some aerodynamics test/regulation to ensure fuel efficiency though? Might also explain why the styles are so similar desu

apologies, typo, I meant old tanks armours sucked arse compared to the armours in the modern tanks.

Partially, yeah, but car designers started putting their mockups in wind tunnels to try to improve efficiency long before efficiency regulations started appearing
also, those regulations generally put a ceiling on fuel usage or emissions, they have no say on body design, it's just that aerodynamics is one of the lowest hanging fruits for optimization

read an article once that pointed that architecture tends to be optimized for the environment, and how hot dry climates like southern europe, byzantium and persian architecture historically had flat roofs that optimized internal space, and architecture in northern europe and the british isles had roofs with pronounced angles to better deal with rain and snow accumulation
