What about it? I'd say it's about on par with the EPL in terms of global popularity. Also, without trying to sound offensive, it's pretty much all Spain has. The world isn't exactly awash with Spanish music, television, movies and literature.

There is a niche of young children and older creepy men, who might or might not be pedophiles, who like Japanese pop culture for it’s exposure of underage (or seemingly underage) talent.
Despite the Japanese government’s big efforts to offer Japanese school children to the world (AKB48 and others who dress and act like minors) to market their “cool Japan” image, the creepiness of it all stands in the way to ever have a big breakthrough in the Western world.
The usual career of the Western Nerd is to first discover Anime and Manga (Studio Ghibli movies are the entry drug) as a young child, but then as they grow up become weirded out by it, and start to discover K-Pop. When they reach around 17 or 18 years of age, most of them finally understand that it’s all plastic drivel and wildly inferior to actual music made by musicians, and they switch to Western pop culture.
Some never do of course, those are usually the people who end up going to live in Asia as “English teachers” because they lost their ability to function in the Western world.
